I would just go all brass...

The fan blades are called medium cherry, but they are very dark. The canopy and mounting are antique brass. I was told I can order blades with a different wood tone.

Stupid question, but did you take it out of the box? Sometimes the blades are reversible...

they are but both sides are dark wood, very similar.

I don't think antique brass goes with light wood tones. You need at least a rich midtone. I think painting the blades white would just make the metal stand out more (brass is lovely, but motors and brackets usually aren't meant to be have starring roles). I also think it would look like you took an old fan and tried to make it new -- not always the look you are after. I have antique brass with cherry blades in my LR and don't find it heavy at all. I do have 10 ft ceilings.

Thank you. I agree, white would be awful with anit[que brass. The lighting store was able to order blades in a lighter natural cherry color for my fan. I was happy that I could see how it will actually look and it's much better for my lower ceilings and light pine floors.
