Headphones or ear buds?

I have small ear canals, the design that Apple has is designed that I can wear those.

I had a dickens of a time finding earbuds that were comfortable. I found that iFrogz work for me. I got them at WalMart and they were less than $10 or so.

Elmer--either, just anything that doesn't hurt. I want them to listen to a book on an ipod as I walk. Thanks for the suggestions, all. I'll give the cheaper ones a try first. :)

I don't usually use ear buds. The ones that come or came standard with the iphone were very uncomfortable to me. I must have weird shaped ear canals too. LOL When I needed something to listen to music with during my root canals, I used some cheapie ones from Ross my daughter had received as a gift. They were headphones so they rested over my ears...they sounded pretty good for $10. headphones :-)

ETA: I used these same headphones to listen to music while walking but they made my ears sweat AND I didn't that I couldn't hear anything around me...when I walk I feel more comfortable/safer when I can hear car engines, people etc around me.

I do exactly the same thing, sjerin, and same when I exercise. I do use cheaper ones because of the wear and tear from my usage.

Bluetooth or wired? Phone or mp3 player?

I like Skull Candy wired earbuds - I've accumulated a supply but they can be bought from Walmart.com for under $10. If wired, there are earbuds with three banded plugs (ear devices that include a mic) and two banded plugs. Two work with all players and phones, three sometimes only with certain players and with phones.

If you plug it in and it's not working, pull it out a little bit. If the sounds starts, you have the wrong kind of plug.

You can find many varieties with several sizes of ear bud covers, one of which should fit a small ear canal. I have a small ear too, and I just bought Beats wireless from Amazon. Easy to pair with Apple devices if that is important. But I have cheaper ones (wired) for the gym that I use on the equipment that doesn't need to be wireless.

Wireless (bluetooth) earphones/earbuds work exactly the same way as with Android phones as with iPhones.

I use the Premium in-ear headphones provided by Roku. Clear, crisp sound from any device, cushioned earbuds with variable sizes because every ear is different.

I have a 5-year-old ipod I've never used, so I don't have to use up phone battery. I think I'd prefer the wires, at least for now. One thing I've experienced with earbuds is an intense pain that seems to go straight into the middle of my ear but will give some cheap ones with smaller options a try. No, I will not step into a Walmart. (No offense meant to any of you but I cannot forgive that company for their business practices.) I think for me the ideal solution would be some over-ear headphones that will stay in place and not hurt the top of my head. What a prima donna I am! Thank you all for the good suggestions.

sjerin, my reference to walmart.com was a quick suggestion without endorsement of the seller. The particular product SKU I was referring to happens to NOT be sold by Walmart but a third party offered through the site, like how Amazon Marketplace operates.

The name of the model I've used for many years is the Skull Candy Ink'd. Do a search, you'll several handfuls of sellers to choose from. I like them because the sound quality is very acceptable, they're cheap and durable. With cheap earbuds, the likely point of failure is where the wire connects to the plug. The Ink'd model now uses flat wire and it seems to last much longer.

There's usually an extra set of silicone ear doo-dads in the package (with Skull Candy and perhaps with others), of a smaller size than what's on the unit. Changing them is trivial.

I like the Bose SoundSport In-Ear Headphones. They come with three pairs of tips---small, medium, and large. I use them with my iPod.

Yes, have the same problem, even replace my stethoscope earpieces w/ smaller ones; these are the earbuds that have worked best for me. Good luck.
