My personal opinion (and I'm just an old lady homeowner) is that if you have a family room, the living room becomes a "formal living room" and is fine with just one entry point. It's really easy to look at floor plans online for new homes, and if you do that I'm sure you'll find plenty of formal living rooms with just one entry point. (Although formal living rooms seem less and less common, with "great rooms" being more the norm. I prefer a formal living room and a family room -- and a formal dining room and a breakfast nook.) Things to consider in making your decision would include: (1) How many people will generally be in the room at any one given time? (2) What type of "event" will be going on when the formal living room is being used? In other words, if you're having a party and many people will be going into/out of the room, you might want two ingress/egress points. But if it will mainly be used when you're in there with a total of only three to five other people, one opening should be enough. Again, that's my opinion only.

I agree. it does look like a bedroom set up Beverly. This is what is in there now, not my furniture. I am trying to plan what to bring or how to set up when we move in next month. I was hoping to go light in this house but I do have a dark wood carved mirror that I like. Maybe I can find a credenza to work with that.
