Need to Grind Down QuickCrete High Spots
Comments (6)LOL... Oh, why didn't I read your post before I rented the large grinder??!!! It certainly did the job... beautifully and quickly. However... "dust bowl" certainly describes what I was working in! Also I forgot to buy a mask, so I had a tube sock tied around my head, covering my mouth and nose. And over that... I can say this because no one knows me here... a (clean) pair of boxers tied over that to provide additional protection! The fan pointing out the window, and the towels stuffed under the door did help somewhat. Floorman... thank you for your response. Next time,I will certainly follow your direction regarding the dust containment!...See MoreIs this tile job acceptable for a "top of the line" remodeling company
Comments (12)Thank you @millworkman and @Kristin Petro, CKBD for your responses. Here are some photos. I tried to capture the issues but it's less obvious in photos than looking in person. This piece of cut tile is not the same width along the niche, and the cut itself is also not straight or smooth. The tiles are not flush. I know there is a bit of buckling on all tiles, but most of the pieces do not have this issue so I am pretty sure this could have been avoided The contractor said that he is not able to make the cuts so they are the same height across the top (he kept blaming the uneven ceiling and the shadow from the mud, etc., but I am just looking across the tile tops). Maybe the caulk will fix this, but I won't know till it's done. I am rather skeptical he is saying it's "impossible" to line up the tiles. It may be difficult or unnecessary, but to say it is not possible for someone who's done this for 10 years seems a bit unreal....See MoreIs this an acceptable tile job?
Comments (8)I wouldn't hire him. when we started tiling, I got 2 names from a local tile store. I called 2, one never responded, one we were going to hire but every time he came to measure, he jacked up the price of the bid. Then I found the 2 highest reviewd tile persons on Houzz. They couldn't meet our timeline but I asked them for their best recs. through those conversations I finally found our guy. He’s done what i think is a great job. He’s easy to communicate with, shared how he waterproofs, did a dry layout and explaind how he was going to lay the tile. We talked about the day’s plan when he would arrive and he’d walk me through the job at end of day. I stressed I didn’t want sliver cuts and he made sure there were not any. Lots of levels and straight edges to make sure it was all straight. He miscut our quartz piece for the curb but replaced it on his dime. Total integrity....See MoreHelp! Is this an acceptable tile job?!
Comments (8)Other than the perimeter of the floor when horizontal meets vertical--the seam should be caulked and not grouted, the floor is acceptable. I've seen far worse jobs. Meshed backed sheets of small tiles are not the easiest things to lay & get right. Yours looks pretty good. There does seem to be uneven color variation in the floor tiles but that isn''t on the tile layer. That goes back to who ever picked the tiles and didn't inspect the sheets before the tile was installed....See MoreBrittany Lerch
