I would have whichever color you prefer mixed in a flat wall paint not a ceiling paint. Casey

Cross posting as I had no responses in the paint forum. Can I have pigment added to ceiling paint? I’ve used wall paint on ceilings before, but I‘m wondering if ceiling paint is easier to use overhead, assuming it can be tinted to the color I want.

Don't get hung up on the ceiling paint vs wall paint. Yes, there are differences, but wall paint works perfectly fine on ceilings. I generally use the same color on walls and ceilings or will tie one room to the next by using my neutral from the hallway on the ceiling of the bedroom or bath. What I do change is the finish. I will select an eggshell or satin finish for walls, but always use a flat finish on the ceiling. The flat finish helps hide imperfections in the ceiling. In some homes this may not be a big deal, but often the drywall seams in ceilings are more noticeable than on the walls and can give a stripped effect if light reflects off the paint.

So in Australia, at my local Bunnings store, they couldn’t match BM gray wisp (even with two different colour matching codes I found online). So I got a sample pot of the closest colour I could find which was Misty Lake by Taubmans. I got it in a 10% tint in a low sheen white paint. Here are pics of the sample pots: full strength Misty Lake, 10% Misty Lake, untinted white. And here is a pic of the 10% and white side by side on the ceiling… thoughts?? I am really shocked at just how much more light is reflected from the white, compared with the tinted paint. I can also see just how grey/green it is (but maybe this is just because of the contrast). I think I love it but my hubby doesn’t. He did say he is happy to paint it with the tint though. I am just terrified to do it. I am not good at designing and I know how much work it will be to change it if I don’t like the end result…. Aaargh! Please help me decide. I am also going to do a bigger section with the sample pot now so I will upload the next progress shot too.
