Kitchen cabinet selection/ book case 'issues'
Comments (3)White cabinets are definitely not out of date -- the Something's Gotta Give/Christopher Peacock/white cab/white countertop is very, very popular now. I'm biased, because I just put in maple wall cabs with a white (cream) island, but I think that either maple/hickory or white cabs would look great. As long as the maple is far enough away in color from the hdwd floor, I think it would look fine. (FWIW, I have a caramel glaze on my cabs and a caramel wood floor.) Here's a pic: As you can see, the kitchen is open to the family room. I had a wet bar converted into a bookcase/display case in maple to match the kitchen, and I'm going to end up with a cream entertainment center if/when I ever can afford it. I can't vote for either maple or cream because I really like both, but either one would be wonderful IMO. HTH....See Morea key issue in kitchen planning...or not?
Comments (20)I do have that design flaw in my 2.5year kitchen remodel and it was brought to my attention here, at the time. I had a tricky space to design and did not want my range accessible from my peninsula b/c I have young kids that would have likely reached over and burned themselves. So, although it was a consideration, I opted for "wet floors" versus "burned hands." Having said that, I really haven't had an issue with wet floors from bringing prepped food to my range. I often bring the skillet or pot to the sink, cut my meat or veggies and fill the pot or skillet next to the sink, then place it on the stove. If I add as I go, I often chop into a small bowl, then transfer then from there. Here is the layout... while it may get critiqued here, it works for me!...See MoreBathroom Floor Tile / Flooring Issue
Comments (8)enduring, yes that's exactly what happened. The entire bathroom lacked any type of water proofing, whatsoever. They tiled directly to plywood subfloor in the bathroom area (the area under the toilet was also rotten once I uncovered it) and the concrete backerboard they had used was almost entirely disintegrated. Just for fun, I guess, they also did varying lengths of sheet rock around the shower. I ripped that all down as well, and will just be using cement backerboard all the way to the ceiling. Hopefully this will be a great project. Purchased new subfloor (3/4 tongue & groove), 1/2 inch wonder board, redgard, seam tape, and will be sizing in some (http://www.homedepot.com/p/MARAZZI-VitaElegante-Grigio-12-in-x-24-in-Porcelain-Floor-and-Wall-Tile-15-6-sq-ft-case-ULRT1224HD1PR/205473907) tile from HD. It was a 48 inch pan, but instead of replacing it, I'm going to do a tile floor replacement. Letting the tile from the bathroom floor extend once past a bumper and all the way up the walls. Comments (11)Looks like you're experiencing panelization. The sides of your floor boards are glued together with your polyurethane finish. And it is gapping or cracking at the weakest point. Cracks down the middle of a board or large noticeable panels of floor boards is a good indication. This usually happens with water base finishes. The use of a quality sealer or a sealing stain would prevent this. A tear out may be your only remedy. Your humidity level is probably too low in the kitchen area. You will need to increase the humidity in that area and diffuse any dry air from underneath to minimize shrinkage....See More- 5 years agoctmommy thanked Wonder Woods Flooring and Carpentry
