Trying again....posting and a picture of my "herd"

First effort was a fail. I deleted it because it didn't show up in this forum. Trying again. This is my "herd" after they evacuated from Hurricane Harvey. Left to right, black mule, Sabrina. White mare, Gypsy. Then Mariah, Val, Bane, and Amos, the donkey. This was before I got the new donkeys and the new horses....Snoop, Emery, Shadow and Rita.

Comments (15)Thanks dood, I do try to back up what I say with pictures as evidence, rather than hollow talk, stuff that I have copied and pasted or just rhetoric. I think that we over think and over worry a lot of this stuff. Here is an example: This is a near record, if not THE record for rainfall for our area. Consequently a very good (or bad depending on which side you are on)year for fleas. Because of our dogs misery, we had to treat the yard for fleas the other day and used some bug b gone product in a fertilize spreader when it looked like it was going to be no rain for most of a day. It got the fleas, but much to my dismay, I found in the yard thee next day after the next heavy downpour. Some of them could have drown of course, some usually do, however I was very encouraged a few days later to see (all the little black spots) of an apparently still healthy population of earthworms. Mind you, this is after two years of severe drought which really took it's toll on them. I am still not seeing much evidence of the little red wigglers, but as I understand it, they do not burrow deep to escape the drought like the regular earthworms. My conclusion is that they are pretty resilient, danged tough and can withstand a lot of adversity and come back strong. Consequently, I would not worry at all about spraying a little bit of round up on the foliage of unwanted weeds and grasses. Comments (9)Dana, congrats on the seedlings! I did send you some seed a year or so ago but can't remember what I sent since I have sent seeds to so many people I can't remember who gets what! Here is a picture of the mother plant your seed came from. Your Gazelle looks lovely and can't wait to see what the babies look like. I have Medley that I got a few years ago from Van Bourgodien that is coplanted with my Petit Faucon. I know all too well what you mean about some people being able to grow some things so easily from seed and others having a time. Some clematis seed are easy for me and others are just a pain in the @ss as far as getting them started. Comments (5)Voices in the Dark is a really pretty Shooter hybrid. It's listed as a "sev" so that says not much as far as winter hardiness in your zone. I know your winter was colder then normal, but just my guess is it's not winter kill that's the problem. Could be cultural. Pot it up in some really good quality and well drained potting mix if it looks like you might be going to loose it and see if the change in growing medium helps any. They always want to be by your side accompanying you, and in their eyes you are the Shepherd and they need to be told what next new goal to accomplish.... And oh, that intelligence is just amazing. HarmonyP, yes, the debate against Border Collie pet breeding is a very! serious issue, and yes, I do think it's appropriate to get on a soap box about this. BCs should never ever be bred save to breed for that intelligence, that keenness and sensitivity and love for work and never, ever! for looks or prettiness. Owning a B.C. comes with a heavy load of responsibility and dedication. They are not! a hobby or just-for-fun dog. Carol, many females have better biddability and are easier and faster to train because of this sensitivity factor; whereas sometimes! males because of their huge strength and size just become too independent-minded and on their-own-track of thought.
