Well I found this "down and out" mount and think it may solve my woes. I will have to deal with or patch the hole in the wall behind the tv-but I may leave a smaller opening for components and such. The house was built in 2000 and I just think that was before people started getting super large tv's, so I won't feel too bad about filling it up (having a carpenter re wall it and patch and paint, I can't see such a small space holding a tv again. Anyway here it is, it just swings up and down and out (it will clear fireplace mantles), you can also get it with a pivot head to angle it for viewing preference. It has great reviews, so I am kind of hopeful it can solve the tv issue. Oh and I would probably paint the wall bracket to match the wall so it blended in better.

Yes- the door by the world map is the front door. Although we rarely use it b/c our driveway and garage are off of the back of the house. I do think the sofa along that wall looks funny and chops the flow. I moved it out far enough to get a console table behind it and I'm not liking how far over i would have to move it. All in all I think the flow works better with the couches over by the patio(narrower space). I hung the curtians just to see... what do you think? Navy or white? Both will have two panels per side. I'm leaning toward navy(but I'm really biased toward color)

Ha! The fixture is actually an integrated LED, so a warm LED band light is integrated into the sides. You can see it best in the second picture. Given that this would be a very difficult place to change a lightbulb (i.e. would require scaffolding), this is a more long-lasting option (hopefully). If part does go out it will be a pinpoint, not a whole band, as it's apparently lots of tiny individual lights. Of course, when enough goes out we'll have to replace the whole thing, so there are advantages and disadvantages. I'm told this style is very long lived.
