Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Living/dining room with tricky floor plan

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster here :)

I'll be moving into my first apartment soon, which is exciting, but I'm a little lost when it comes to furnishing the living/dining room. The floor plan is rather unusual as you can see. It's a rental with high walls (10') and big windows.

I haven't bought any furniture yet, but I know I'll want a sofa, a TV stand, a small dining table (+ 2 or 3 chairs) and a dresser for storage. I'll be living there alone and don't plan on hosting much. I like the Skandinavien style and light colors.

The second image is the furniture arrangement of the current renters. It's practical and I like the fact that you can see the TV from the dining table, but maybe there's a better solution?

I would be grateful for any advice and suggestions on what to do with the place!

Here’s what I would suggest. This way you are taking advantage of any views you may have. The dining area is now more accessible to the kitchen. Any clothing type storage would be right outside the bedroom. Suggest taping out the sofa and chair on the floor so you get the right sizes.

Thank you so much for your input Nancy! I really like the idea of creating a more definite living area and moving the dining table closer to the kitchen. The first china cabinet on the left would block the entry way too much I think, but I won't need that much storage space anyway.

I'll just echo and say to stay away from the corner sink. I'd stay away from a corner cabinet, altogether. I like MiHelene and Mama's layouts. The location of the dishwasher in your plans is awkward and requires a lot of turning when loading. You want to keep "point of use" in mind throughout arranging the workflow and minimize steps to accomplish a task. Is that a bi-fold door on the powder room? Can you change it to a pocket door if you don't have the swing for a standard door?

try and post a few from diff areas so we can get an overall look. post the name and a good shot of the wall color. and post any pics that the new flooring will transition to the flooring you want to keep. that way we can see what we have to match.

@Vinnya DeLuca - the entry to the great room is through a 8-foot wide cased (actually, steel beam-framed) opening near the kitchen. There is a hallway parallel to the length to our guest room area, but wanted those to be private, so only one entry to the great room. The entry is across from the main entry to our house, through the foyer. And thanks. That mockup/render was an early attempt to see if I properly framed the view the way i wanted. We have enough framing up to know that I nailed it!

As @shirlpp mentions above, there are various articulating tv wall mounts. And there are also drop down mounts that also swivel/angle; the drop down mounts are particularly useful for mounting tv over the fireplace. mantelmount.com And Amazon also sells their line, as well as others. As another option, you could use a wheeled/mobile tv console/stand - and station the tv on the wall to the left of the fireplace. This could offer you a lot of flexibility and tv placement options.
