Bona ClassicSeal streaks! Help!
Comments (71)I have a similar situation as OP we used Nordic Seal followed by MegaOne finish. We definitely were misinformed about the Nordic Seal applicaiton and did not put on enough sealant the first time around. This left us with some nasty patchy spots here and there. Fortunately the majority of the floor turned out really nice, but we are not very excited aboiut the pictured spots which unfortunately ended up right in the middle of the hallway and super noticable. Our sealant is the white tinted seal. We have tried to lightly scuff the finish and then reapply some white sealant to match the color but we are having a tough time blending it in. The white seems to need a lot to look the same tint and if you overlap any spots where the white is already fine then it keeps getting whiter and you can tell its layered up. Given the cost to rent the machines again, re-doing the entire floor is something we would like to avoid at all costs. I have read the above comments about sanding down to wood, but should we be concerned about potentitally damaging other parts of the floor that area already in good shape? Any advice would be much appreciated! thanks....See Morered oak floor install; neutral/pale sealer advice
Comments (39)We finished our #2 grade red oak installation stained with Rubio monocoat smoke 5%. Here is a photo with the unfinished #2 red oak on left and the 25 year old dining room floor (smaller planks) on right. Overall, I love the smoked effect of the Rubio! I do regret not getting something a bit more dramatic in color though like a white or a darker brown. The redder planks of oak still look pinkish. I thought that the green of the 5% smoke would soften the pink. We will be installing the same oak in the other sitting room and kitchen and I would like to try a whiter shade or a darker shade to try and mask some of the pink. (I didn't waterpop and maybe that could have added a more opaque effect from the smoke 6%). Advice please: I bought UMO to add the extra level of protection and sheen. Tomorrow will be the 36hr curing time from the smoke 5% 2c to apply UMO. Should I just save the UMO for when we do the other rooms in a year or so? Is is possible to blend this smoke 5% floor with a new floor done with a different shade (a whiter or more medium brown shade)? Can a new shade be applied over this smoke 5% or should the floor be sanded? Thanks!...See MoreFinishing White Oak Floors
Comments (39)Floors were finished with Minwax Weathered Oak Stain, one coat of Bona Classic Seal, and one coat of Bona Traffic. Another coat of Traffic will be applied after cabinets and trim installation. The floors did not turn out the way I expected, but I'm still very pleased with the final outcome. I would have preferred a less "painted" look, and more natural with just a tint of brown. But, I couldn't find any stains that provided this look. Someone mentioned that tinting the sealer might achieve the look I wanted, but my installer had not tinted before, and I didn't want him trying on my floors for his first time. It was difficult to capture accurate photos. All the ones I took on an iphone were very inaccurate. The ones below were taken with a DSLR and capture the true look from various angles. In real life, the floors are slightly darker than the photos. Perhaps this will help someone in the same situation as me. In hindsight, I should have sample stained and sealed a much larger area (maybe 3' x 3') with a couple of final choices to get a more accurate representation....See MoreBona Sealers on my White Oak
Comments (82)Can anyone speak to whether or not you can (or even should) just do three layers of the bona HD finish on raw maple or if that impacts the integrity of the floor and you need to use a seal (irrespective of stain) because it’s maple and doesn’t really take stain anyways. I’m just asking more as a matter of durability and function - does the raw wood require the seal for protection in addition to the finish???...See Moremttcob808
