The tile guys scratched my new quartz countertops!
Comments (21)you feel like you and your family should be the ones to make the first scratch, ding, gouge, or stain! Ain't that the truth! It still bugs me how cavalier my GC was when I pointed out all of the plaster splatters on the existing woodwork and doors just outside the kitchen (the plaster splatters left by the plasterers). I asked "what about cleaning that up?" GC: "Oh, that'll come right up." Well, it had been sitting on the stained wood door for two weeks by then, and the water in the plaster soaked into the wood and left a noticeable patch. Luckily the painter was able to fix it so it's not so noticeable. And the worst part is that I would have cleaned it up *myself* if DH hadn't kept saying "that's what we're paying the GC for--to take care of everything." HA! The blessing is that DH knows better now not to prevent me from taking care of things when I've got a mind to do it....See MoreCan my quartz countertop be fixed?
Comments (5)Thanks for the replies. Today we met with the contractor, the designer and the manager in charge of our project at the company we are dealing with. I told them I had done some research and I had come to the conclusion that a quartz counter-top which has been sanded over an area about 5" by 20" can't be restored to perfect condition. The manager insists that the granite & quartz specialist get a chance to repair the counter-top. The manager also says that if, after the repair, we are not happy and we ask that the counter-top be replaced by a new one, he will replace it without asking any question. The repair man is coming a week from today. I am not happy with this. Even if the repair guy does a great job, how do I know that it will last? I think that the manager is hoping that I will soften up and in a week, when I see the "almost perfect but not quite perfect" repaired counter-top, I will be fed-up with the whole thing and I will say "Fine"....See MoreSplotch on my newly installed quartz countertop, help!
Comments (7)It shouldn't need to be replaced. A stain that is darker in color typically indicates a residue on the surface. Surface residues simply need to find the right cleaner to remove them. My first questions would be: What are the recommended cleaners? What have you used? What were the results? Typically a bleach based cleanser removes most household residue issues. In some cases, an industrial type residue can be left behind by installers and/or trade workers, such as silicone residue for example. An industrial residue would require an industrial strength cleaning with solvent based cleaners, where the fabricator should be able to provide this. On acetone, it doesn't do much for Quartz to be honest, and is better suited for natural stone. Denatured Alcohol would be better, and for your purposes, if a bleach based cleanser does not work, I would try Isopropyl Alcohol above 90% if you end up doing it yourself. Never let the alcohol sit on the surface for a prolonged period of time, however....See MoreHave I ruined my white Quartz?
Comments (1)Quartz Renew will fix it, but it's not a DIY project unless you practice on a scrap for a while....See MoreMrs. Gopher #BringBackSophie
