Comments (59)I've never had plants stolen, but I have had tools stolen. I used to live in a rental house in a neighborhood in a bad part of town. My roommates and I were NICE to the homeless people that lived around there. We'd give them money/food/cigarettes to wash our cars or do things in our yard or help us with some heavy lifting or whatever. This one guy even kind of "adopted" us, seemed like a nice guy, would go on and on and on about how he came to be in this situation and how he's a hard worker and will work his way out of it and so on. Oh, and he'd also go on about how he's a Christian and talk about his faith in Jesus and he's forgiven for his sins and so on. He said he'd watch over our house because we were his friends and people have to watch out for each other, and that was nice, we thought. Anyway, our homeless people started getting more and more insistent over time, knocking on our door at all hours, asking for more work to do even though we didn't have any more that we needed, trying to get higher prices for what work they did do, while we tried to explain to them it's not like we're rich either. It started to get to where we didn't like going outside our house much because someone would come up begging for something, so we finally started being more firm saying no to them. So you know what they did? They stole all my garden tools, some tents we had in our backyard drying after a camping trip, and my roommate's bikes! And no only did our so-called friend not stop them, he's the one that planned it, after hanging around us long enough to tell when we were home and not. Yeah, so much for "love thy neighbor" Christian morality! That's the thanks we get for trying to reach out in friendship to people in need. We aren't even Christians, we were just trying to be good people, and this is what happens! These kinds of things really jade me. People don't care about other people at all, they just look at you and think of what they can get from you....See MoreSomebody stole my gourds.
Comments (10)Roblkey, I am so sorry this happened to you. I live by a school and get lots of kids walking by but no plant theft as of yet, however my mailbox takes a beating. If i am ever to find kids picking my flowers that they would be giving them to a loved one and not just thrown in a ditch half way home, or i would be on the ball enough after the initial shock and say "you are welcome to my flowers on one condition, if you help me in my garden and your mom or dad says its OK. My parents didn't garden or plant any flowers ever, thank goodness my neighbor down the street had a little greenhouse and enjoyed the company of a kid. I'll be darned the delphiniums I bought from her 17 years ago, still bloom at my dads house and I have the worst luck with them in my own yard! She got me started in this love of gardening, so you just never know, those pesky kids might love your garden more than you know. in roblkeys case i think they were being little turds!...See Morei just paid $1600 for a 2.5'x3' piece of granite.
Comments (24)Kate, Please accept my sympathy, I'm so sorry for your loss. I saw your post early this morning and I've been thinking all day about what to say. When my mother passed away right before Thanksgiving I couldn't decide whether I was relieved or sad. We had already lost her to Alzheimer's 5 years ago. She would have been 89 this spring and she was such a wonderful strong, smart, talented and funny woman that I spent a long time being angry that she was gone even before she left us forever. Someone said in an earlier post that they still saw glimmers of their mother despite the Alzheimer's and this was so true for my mother even until the day before she died. Oddly, after my mother died I started to realize that I had her back as she was for most of her life, as I and my brothers and sister remembered her. During her long decline we were dealing with everything of the day to day she needed but couldn't do for herself. After she went to be with the God she so devoutly believed in she came back to us in all of our great memories. One blessing we had, or maybe two, in choosing a headstone: 1) our cousins who had gone through burying their mother earlier in the year talked us out of making an immediate decision, and 2) even when we thought we were capable of making a rational decision the company that specialized in grave markers told us we had to wait until spring because the ground was still frozen otherwise we might have had pink granite because my sister insisted that was my mother's favorite color even though everyone knew she only told my sister that because my sister loved it so much. My sister finally admitted that she knew Mom was only humoring her when she was a pre-teen infatuated with pink, LOL. Hang in there. I know your Mom was wonderful and how much it hurts but hang on to your sister and the rest of your family because they know how great your Mom was too....See MoreCustomer Service...The Good and The Bad
Comments (14)As much online shopping as I've done in the last approx three years, I think I can count myself lucky. I'm having a bit of trouble with a houseplant co. named The Sill right now. A little early to give them a bad review so I'm not doing that... But I've ordered many perennials and shrubs from all over the country. This was my first time with indoor things. I ordered a hoya heart duo, which was two charming little heart shaped hoya in quite small minty green pots, matching saucers. I'd planned to give one to my sis in law and keep one. What I received was one plant, two little cache pots. No saucers and the one plant I rec'd was clearly cold damaged. Damaged beyond recovery. They wanted a photo of the missing saucers. Excuse me? And, I am to do that how? I did get a real voice on the phone, she agreed that was ridiculous, I could have depicted a box containing nothing and told them it arrived empty - but I'm an honest person and wanted only my order. I was told they couldn't ship the saucers because they came only as a set with the pot. Somewhere in their shipping, they must have the two saucers, without the pots I was sent. Next call confirmed I would get two new pots (that I didn't need), two saucers, and two new plants, They will be protected from cold in shipping with denim box liners and heat packs. Sounded good to me, I was wondering why they went out without those things 4 days earlier. They may make it right, at this point I'm almost indifferent to receiving my order or a refund, either would be fine. Our last conversation confirming my shipment would be made right will be two weeks tomorrow and I've had no new shipping notice, no tracking number sent. I'm giving it one more day before I call again. I suspect no action has taken place. Their reviews are mostly wonderful and I do expect to be made right somehow at some point..... I'm just glad I hadn't ordered for something important, like my sisters birthday end of this week ;)...See MoreElmer J Fudd
