My dad is in comfort care now

He's been moved to the oncology department at the hospital he was in following his last stroke. They took him off the vent the other day but then put a feeding tube in him. I talked to my brother about that and the ventilator, since my dad didn't want that when he was totally with it. After speaking to the hospice nurse and his doctor, my brothers decided that comfort care was best and took out the feeding tube. He's unable to eat and isn't talking. He's in some pain so they are keeping him comfortable.

Tomorrow I'm going to get a living will made with copies for my kids. I also need a will done. Even though my dad had a living will and was a DNR, seems my brothers were unsure what to do for my dad. Years ago he even told us all that if we tried to prolong his life he would come back to haunt us. I'm also talking to my kids so there are no questions. Everyone should do this. I've learned from being a nurse on a med-surg floor and now with my dad that having a living will and DNR do not protect you. They will still do what your family member wants. You really need to make sure your family knows what you want and don't want done.
