dorm curbless shower/water everywhere - need help
Comments (4)They make a "garage curb" that is designed to be installed at the edge of a garage door on the floor to keep out water that sheets down the garage door. It's fairly inexpensive and could be installed with just some caulk that would be easy to scrape up at a later time. They should also make sure that the shower curtain is properly positioned in the interior space of the shower in order to shed the water back into the drain. A lot of young guys away from home the first time may not quite know how the shower curtain should be installed....See MoreShopping for a Daughter's College Dorm . . . OMG!!
Comments (86)Thank you all so much for taking the time to give me/us these suggestions! Emily & I have been sitting here this morning, rereading every one of your posts and adding things to our ongoing lists to do, to take and to buy. They have helped so much. You've helped us both by suggesting things we hadn't thought of and you've also saved me money, because I'm not having to ship off things DD will need but we'd forgotten. And yes, I do realize that there will be local stores that she can shop at for forgotten items, but as I mentioned here before, we've been there and done this with DS nine years ago. Let me mention it again for any other new freshman parents: the local stores in the area will be a nightmare to shop at that move-in day and for at least the next week afterwards! Most needed items will be quickly sold out and the check-out lines will be staggeringly long with stressed out, frazzled parents and students. Been there, will NOT be doing that one again this time! Lisa: thank you for that suggestion! I'd hadn't yet thought of her immunization records, but have just added this to our list. Suero: thanks for that link. I've made a list of things we need to check with housing about. Lazy: yes, the school does provide bed, mattress, desk, chair, etc. I'm with you on the stores and madhouse there will be at them that first day/week ;^D Gotta run errands with DD once again. Will be back later to check on this thread once more. Lynn...See MoreHelp arranging "Dorm" in Parents' house
Comments (19)First, think of the functions of the room and they will help you personalize it. You will want to sleep in the darker side of the room, so put the bed far away from the window. Which way does your window face? Try to put your chair so that the light falls on your book, if you are reading a paper book. If you are reading from a screen, turn the chair the other way. If you are getting a new chair, choose a swivel tub chair. They have a comfortable rounded back, supportive even though it is a lower backed chair....See MoreNeed help, college dorm room decorating!
Comments (4)Hey! Dorm rooms are tough - you want it to feel like home, but you cant fit a lot and you don't want to buy anything NICE because it needs to be mobile later on. I went to Ole Miss where the girls (feel free to google "Ole Miss Dorm's" - it'll blow your mind) go ALL OUT (like the pic below) to make their dorms perfect. I was not like that and to be honest it sounds like my style is a bit more like yours. I have a few ideas that I hope can help! First: heres a link from Society6 talking about (ironically enough) Ole Miss dorm room styling suggestions: https://www.society19.com/20-amazing-ole-miss-dorm-rooms-major-dorm-decor-inspiration/ Still not my style, but it has a lot of good ideas that I didn't think of! Storage is always an issue which can make your room feel cluttered. A lot of people like to loft their beds and put those "cubes" underneath with stuff in the cubbies and cover the under part of their bed with a long bedskirt. You don't want to clutter your room, but i'm all about STUFF that can make it more cozy! A lot of people got/made "headboards" (i.e. usually just a normal twin headboard on stilts they leaned against the wall behind their beds). I think the sticky-removable wallpaper is a little too high maintenance for a dorm, but I love tapestries! Houzz has a bunch, so does Society6 and Urban Outfitters. I suggest a printed bedding and lots and lots of throw pillows to shove in the corners of your bed. Kind of makes it like a couch and adds some texture and color! I love photos/anything personal. If you have any artwork/local things from home/where you are from - decorate your shelves above your bed with them/frame them. Doing anything vertical is key. Where you're "shelves" are in your room next to the cabinet and your bed - you could get a floor to ceiling bookshelf/cubbies/drawers to put things in instead. You can find fun/funkier window curtains by using a shower curtain holder (i.e. fits in-between the walls to hold up curtains of your choice. I also love macrame hanging plant holders (even if you use fake plants) you can find attachments to hang them from the ceiling. Maybe a fun/patterned rug for your floor as well! I hope this helps and good luck!!...See MoreRelated Professionals
