Newbie here! We are buying a condo, and I'm confused about what to do with the dining room light fixture. You can't really tell it in this picture but the pendent is very close to the island and if you place a table directly under it, it blocks off quite a bit of the walk through area as well as being able to use bar stools at the counter. You can see they don't have their table directly underneath it. There is plenty of room for the table closer in to the wall but it will leave the low hanging fixture . Should I consider swagging it? That seems like it could look tacky. Is it okay not to have a hanging fixture and perhaps use a nice flush/semiflush fixture? Any suggestions? Feel free to comment on ANY thing you see in picture like paint color, etc... ! (furniture belongs to previous owner, we have more midcentury style)

I had my electrician move the power box to center over my table. Mine was at least two feet offcenter. It wasn’t a big job, but it did require drywall patching, but done quickly.

Have you thought about a round table? That might fit the space better. Also, centering the fixture over your table is doable (see K Laurence's post).

Depends on the room the chandy is in. In a more contemporary home, I'd probably use the white sleeves. Nothing to really keep clean. Dust the chandy once in a while. If you want to actually wash the sleeves, you just remove the bulb and slip the sleeve off and wash them. I have a small chandy like that in my kitchen, which was there when I bought the house. It has the white sleeves. I should change them to the honey, not that I think about it! The dining room chandy I have from Ace Iron doesn't have any sleeves (it's a ring-style chandy, so no pillars/sleeves for the bulbs). OP's house is a 1900s farmhouse, so I'd def. go with the honey or antique if that were my house.

Drum light will be a little anti-climactic to your other choice. I like the bigger one better because it matches your other lights better, and no, it's not too large for your table, especially when the table is extended, but even when collapsed it is still 18" shorter than your table's length, so that's fine.

Best solution : put your table and chairs where they are convenient for how you will use them and your counter. Then have an electrician move the power box as suggested above. A lovely hanging fixture will help to "define" your dining area. Be sure you hang the lighting fixture at the right height over your table...some one will be happy to tell you what this is in inches.....
