Plant ID help please :)

Hi all,

so this particular plant I purchased online from a relatively well known succulent source as E. Minima. I recently uploaded a pic of it to my Instagram (that pup!!) which sparked a bit of a debate as to its actual ID.

I actually purchased 2 of these from the same source at the same time. So with this debate going on I took a snap of the second one and then a side-by-side phot for comparison.

From this it was noted that the second one (terra-cotta pot) was closer to a true Minima and that the first (blue glazed pot) may be a Tuxpan. I do agree that there seems to be a bit of a difference between the two, but I had originally chalked it up to slightly different growing conditions, mostly watering a slight difference in light exposure (both had been under growlights but at slightly different distances). Anywho, I’m very curious to know what others may think. The last 2 photos were taken after the sun went down. If more/better phots would be helpful, I’d be happy to take more. As always, any insight is greatly appreciated.

Have they flowered for you? I can see the differences people are seeing, but I personally think both pots look like the same plant, and does look like E. minima. I mean you did purchase them from the same spot at the same time. They look good;). Echeveria can be confusing because even within the same species there can be differences. For example I see others E. pulidonis that look different from mine, same plant;).

Thanks Kara! I had originally been thinking exactly the same thing. Sure there are difference but they also have similarities :) I’m glad to hear you’re in agreement! To answer your question, only one of them has flowered for me so far... but they were both in different pots at the time so I’m not entirely sure which of the two it was. I tend to think it was the one in question but I couldn’t say for certain, which isn’t very helpful is it lol. Here’s a pic anyway.

Thanks so much for your help. I am currently converting some of my lawn to a river rock dry creek and some rain garden plants. Found this volunteer near my lavender pot and spent a good hour trying to figure it out. Do you use a special plant ID site or just know the plant well?

@hc mcdole thank you so much for all of the information and the wonderful pictures! Yes, he got them from Kroger! I was shocked as they are nothing like the typical plants I always see there so I went the next day to see what else may be there that he decided to pass over and there was a huge red and green maranta that stopped me in my tracks! It was splayed out in the center of the table and taking most of the space- so other plants were around....and on it. I would have taken it home then but would have needed more space so planed to return after my son's karate class.....well we know how this story goes! It was of course GONE and I was heartbroken yada yada lol but back to the ones my husband did get- the begonia was BEAUTIFUL day one and two as you can see from the pic.....but by the 3rd 4th day before I finally had time to repot it this weeked) it started declining rapidly. I think it was in too went soil for too long. The very tips started to fold down then the leaves started to get darker and soggy looking then crispy one by one. There are a few large leaves that still are darkened like this about halfway, but the smaller leaves were just crispy and barely hanging on. The roots were....okay as far as I could tell during the repot, Im just not sure if it will bounce back from this or not. Im hoping so its a beautiful plant. Would you suggest I do anything in particular?

Asparagus fern. Several species go by that name so could be Asparagus densiflorus or Asparagus aethiopicus, And obviously not a fern at all but a popular houseplant!

I believe the amount of splash a Hoya gets has to do with the kind of light it gets. It's counterintuitive to me, but it seems like the less direct light mine get, the splashier they CAN be. But understand that the silver flecking is more or less an anomaly and is often not stable. I got a cutting of a nicely flecked Hoya fungii that put out a few splashy leaves then proceeded to stop. I keep watching and hoping for more of the splashy leaves! Denise in Omaha

Oh wait I found a pic of the one in question (blue glazed pot above) when I first got it. It was not that one that bloomed for me... but you can see how much it’s changed
