Indoor Hot Tub Room issues

We have an indoor Hot Tub Room.

Basement level, under deck above. Enclosed. Bay design with windows and exit door to back yard.

Ceiling finished with Cedar.

Walls are brick

Floor is Tiled.

HotTub (Alps Spa) has just been revived and working which is when this issue presented.

The problem I'm facing is excessive moisture from the Hot Tub. The floor, door and all the windows are all misted and/or wet with the condensation from the Hot Tub.

I would like to use this 'room' as a fitness room with a TV to be added. But all this moisture would only get all the equipment wet and the TV potentially set up for ruin.

What are my options to mitigate this?

Ventilation. I'd look into getting a ceiling ventilation fan like you'd use in a bathroom -- the trick will be whether you have space in the ceiling below the deck to run the ducting. Otherwise, open a window??

Is there no exhaust system at all? That is an absolute necessity.

Hello Sean, The steam from your shower is not an issue. While steam is pervasive, it is also a lazy destroyer and will dissipate into your bathroom before it builds up enough pressure to penetrate your uncaulked grout joints. I think that condensation is probably your culprit but you could also have an issue with a poor pipe fitting or a failing valve? Is the appearance of moisture evenly distributed over any given area or is it concentrated like in a stream or corner? Shaughnn

I'd make a provision for some ventilation. A larger capacity bathroom style fan would be fine. Keeping the cover on will mitigate most of the humidity problems, but there are times when you may still get some build up. I don't know what flooring finish you're planning elsewhere, but as long as it's not too water adverse, you shouldn't have a problem. Frankly, I love my outside tub. Having it inside looses some of the charm even in the coldest weather. I do have a pool inside though.

I can't answer which inspector to get, but for updating, I think I'd stick to accessories and make it look "spa like". Despite how convenient it probably is, I'd make the shelves/tv/boombox disappear somewhere. Hang some white fluffly towels. Swap out the plastic chair for a wooden bath stool. Also, there's bamboo bath mats and ones made of pebbles, I think that's the vibe to go for.

Your hot tub should have a 240volt GFCI breaker exclusively for itself, and the lamp should be a different circuit with either a 120volt GFCI breaker or a GFCI duplex receptacle with the lamp on the load side. It sounds like your sharing a common GFCI protected neutral for both of your circuits. Separate them and you'll find that the problem will go away and the only GFI that'll trip will be the 120volt circuit. You need to replace the lamp to stop the tripping. See ya, Kelly

@acm: two windows open. Ceiling extractor fan a possibility. Will look into it. Thanks!

@lindsey: No exhaust :(

Also considering using a Dehumidifier. Would this help?

You have to have an exhaust fan. acm and I are talking about the same thing. It's a must.

A dehumidifier can't work as fast to take water out of the air as your hot tub can put it in.
