lukkiirish....it has. He has become an entitled brat. :) Seriously, he is a grumpy old man.....he can hardly tolerate me....but really it is because he was starved for so long. He wants to make sure no one messes with his food, and even though I give it to him, I think he thinks I am going to eat it too. His personality has changed in other ways. He was very depressed....probably felt horrible and now he has attitude and prances around, and you can tell he feels good now.

WOW, what a difference! His senior years have truly become golden years because he won the lottery when he met you, Marilyn! Thank you for taking such good care of him. :-)

Emery's story brings tears to my eyes! I remember you had concerns about whether he would make it or not. His transformation is wonderful! You do know how to take care of horses, don't you! ! Thank you for sharing with us!

I've been missing your posts lately, but I do understand that what with cleaning up after the flood, looking for a place to move to, packing in preparation for a move, and caring for all your animals, you are very busy. I really appreciate you taking the time to share these pictures with us! God bless you and yours!

Rusty

Rusty, in January, he hurt his leg. I really believe he had a fracture in either his pelvis or femur. It was awful. He was swollen from the top of his hip to his hoof. I came very close to putting him down. I agonized about it. I put him in a stall for two months and gave him an anti inflammatory and pain meds. He wasn't depressed, so I very cautiously watched him. He shows no sign of lameness now. Of course, he will never be ridden or do forced work of any kind, and I am extra careful with him and other horses. I am glad I didn't put him down. I wanted him to enjoy his life. I prayed for him every day, and that I made the right decision. It was a hard decision to make, to let him try to recover.

Marilyn, I know you aren't touchy feely but if I was there right now I would hug you. You are a generous strong woman that I feel blessed to know.

It's hard to think there are people who mistreat animals. Thank you Marilyn for being ready, willing, and able to save them -- it's great to see your pictures of happy, healthy animals that others had given up on.

Wowee!!! I was so hoping Emory would recover from his leg injury and it appears he has. He's absolutely beautiful now. Thank you for saving him....twice!

Your tender care and that food have really brought him around. He doesn't look like the same horse! Even looks a little pudgy to my untrained eyes :-)

That old fella is a beauty! It must give you a lot of satisfaction to watch their transformation as time goes by.

When you get a chance, I would love some pics of the koi pond if it's back to being presentable.

I don't have them in a koi pond....right now they are in a water trough in Emery's barn lot, with some waterlilies. They are very small now. I had the other koi in a 1400 gallon tank that floated across the driveway and filled up and water was so deep, the original koi swam away. I only had six koi in there. (I only have six koi now too....the little ones). I will take a pic tomorrow and show you.

I used to raise koi. I had six mud bottom ponds and I picked out the ones I wanted to spawn every year, and spawned them and then moved the eggs to waterlily ponds to hatch.. I didn't raise them to sell....I just wanted to be able to raise enough to select the ones I wanted to keep. In one of the ponds, I had two gars...Hagar and Cigar, and when I culled the fish, I put them in that pond. If they survived, ok, and if the gars ate them, okay.

When we moved here, we had 3 ponds but none suitable for koi. I brought 27 koi. We had another one dug, but the koi soon outgrew it and I gave them away to a man who had a big sand pit and had some koi in it already. It was 20 acres in size, and I knew they would like that. After I gave them away, I missed them, so I started looking for some little koi and I decided to put together a collection of koi that cost less than $10 apiece. I did that because when I raised koi, I met a lot of other people who had koi and their favorite thing to do was brag about how expensive their koi were. One guy got a mortgage on his house and spent $25,000 on koi.

I bought my original breeder koi from California. They were small and I raised them and spawned them. I selected the ones I wanted to spawn...usually kohakus, which are red and white, and from the thousands of little fish, I picked out the best ones. Of course, birds and snakes ate a lot of them too. It was a lot of fun....like Christmas every day.

I used to raise fancy goldfish too. I spawned them in aquariums, and concentrated mainly on orandas. After I moved here, I had a big green house and raised telescopes. (Like black moors, but I preferred white ones and blue ones.) Show goldfish are fun to raise because they are not a cookie cutter fish....they are a man made fish and it is difficult to get one that is good enough to show. The part of any of my hobbies that has always interested me was becoming involved to the point that I raised my own. I figured anyone could buy a nice fish....for me, it was raising my own fish.

I could tell you a funny story about goldfish. Will do that some time.

Sorry this is so long. I can bore you spitless talking about fish, waterlilies and horses.

He looks so good! Is this the one that you had to walk home because he would not get in the trailer? I was just telling someone about that story the other day. I am so grateful that there are souls like you in the world :^)

Wow. What a difference and what a difference one kind person can make!

Yes, I walked him 12 miles but stopped often and rested him and took 2 days to do it. I hated to do that to him but didn't want to leave him in that awful place, which was a dump.
