Yes, it is a sad time. I have been to the Leavenworth National Cemetery on the the Fort before and it makes me weepy to see all those flags, but yet thankful too. Nothing wrong with stopping to acknowledge and have feelings for all those who served us.

Especially when the bones spur in chief says Happy Memorial Day and then tweets his so-called achievements and said the dead would be happy. Sad.

Yes, Memorial day is not a party, but a remembrance. We lost my father-in-law 5 years ago on Memorial weekend. Above that, I'm sorry, but thankful for those who served our country. I try to thank current members of our military, when I see them, and remember those I can't thank.

I'm right there with you. I have survivor's remorse, typically. I get to hold my daddy (and uncles, brother, cousins...), even though others don't. Freedom isn't free.

Yes, it’s sad. But it is a time to remember and celebrate the soldiers life. They fought for us. So we can be free. Praying for the families who lost spouses, or children.

I don't think tears are a bad thing though. We hear the stories, we empathize and feel grateful to those who have given all. My tears are the only tribute I have to give to those who have given all.

Everyone should visit a National cemetery or a local cemetery that has a number of interred servicemembers. My grandmother is buried at Beverly National in NJ, which I visit a couple of times a year. I toured the American Cemetery at Normandy this month, and I was overwhelmed. I thought I knew what to expect, but the sheer scope of the loss is astounding. I was very sad on the trip back. A very sobering experience.

A way to express appreciation is to volunteer with or donate to Wreaths Across America.

Every time I go to DC, I visit Arlington...it puts life into perspective.

PK, I think I can relate. I get emotional during the 4th of July parade in our town when the veterans going all the way back to the Korean War (our last WWII vet died a couple of years ago) march in their uniforms.

The Vietnam Memorial in DC also was a very emotional experience.

I think it's a good thing to be touched by these things; it means we feel deeply and have empathy for others.
