Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve been back to this thread. I’m posting this on my lunch break, and I only have a certain amount of internet time I purchase each month, so I have to be careful not to blow it all too fast. Also, Saturday my new couch was delivered so I have been in a whirl; vacillating between guilt and utter satisfaction. I LOVE my couch…. Monablair, thank you for welcoming me back! I’m glad you enjoyed my table settings, I do it as much for my self as my guests. There is the old saying “you eat with your eyes”, and I try to elevate the experience not only for the food presentation, but for the surroundings that are present around the meal. Not that my look is for everyone, but I enjoy it…(but that’s probably a whole other conversation) Lanaroma, thank you too for your complement for my table designs, and for healing good wishes! Nosoccermom., I enjoyed your photos; I really like all white rooms, and canopies! I don’t mind a bit of black either, it adds drama. I enjoy using it in bits and pieces, in art frames, lamp shades, mirror frame, little accessories. Although, I have seen the blackest of black ceilings which to me, enlarged the space, and provided some interesting drama. Funkyart, I enjoyed your description as to what makes you happy “ bold, tactile, sleek wood, simple clean design” , I could see it all in my head even without the lovely table you posted. Patty_cakes, so true, it’s an equation of the chosen décor and well as the occupants, and since everyone is different, the look will evoke different terminology and description. Rosie, yes, the sound is an important factor to me too. Soft, silent, feet moving along a floor of wood, marble, carpet, it’s all a part of the tactile experience. Music in the background, rain hitting the roof… Trailrunner, yep, I certainly learn from different opinions and appreciations of what is part of our everyday lives. Everyone’s cocoons mean different things, I enjoy seeing and hearing what other people love in their life. I’m glad you enjoyed my blog, I will try to keep on top of it better now. I love the aspect of the slow revel too (life itself reflects that too… in so many interesting ways), I also like the dramatic “in your face”- here’s the room, of course, for me, it all depends on how it’s presented.

The pics come off a bit dark, so yes, taking pictures with lights on/hutters open would be helpful I wouldn't add anything now until I decide what I want..in fact i'd take small things. put them somewhere else for now, and look at the space so I see it better and with a fresh eye (I also like your china cabinet and curio where they are btw) One thing I want to mention though before I see some more and think some more-I don't know where the house is but it's clearly inspired by forest. Woods. What usually goes on in forests-they're full of colors. they have leaves(or needles:) or both) The leaves might change their colors with seasons. They have flowers. Mushrooms. Berries. Grasses. They have a lot going on.. So if your house takes a lot of clues from forest-adding colors and textures will enhance it a lot. It's a perfect interior to pile on all these things. It takes the idea of your house and develops it. Forests can be very calming and cozy places to be..well maybe not when it's night and winter and you're not sure who's behind that tree..:) But yes, as somebody who loves forests-I see a very big potential in your place, Don't try to convert it into what it's not(I don't think it's your intention anyway; just thinking out loud)..but go with it some more. Don't do a theme..I don't mean a theme at all. I mean inspiration. And yes I love the idea of art, because I ve never seen a place yet that I wouldn't love the adea of art)) Also plants..if there s enough light; but there are several that are very resilient and survive well almost anywhere.

Your sectional and rug are fine but then the effect is ruined by the two dark pieces that don't "belong". Could you possibly change the coffee table for one that is glass and metal? It would really open up your room and give a lighter, friendlier ambiance. Try and get one with two levels so the bottom can be used for storing books, which always give more personality to a room. I would put a light blue and beige pillow on your dark chair to give it some relation to the rug and sofa. The wall behind the chair could be used as a gallery wall or try several fairly large and colorful paintings there. Try a large plant or two against that wall also in some beautiful and interesting pots. Instead of the harsh ceiling light have a table lamp and a table with a lamp on it, one by the chair and one by the sectional. Your room will look so much warmer and user friendly.

Where will the TV be? How many people will usually be watching at once? If it is above fireplace, the height is very important and that plus size of TV dictates how far away seating needs to be to have any reasonably comfortable viewing angle. For example, if up high then the seating closest to wall— like one chair and end of loveseat in that photo— will not have a good view and so are not useful for that ( though fine for conversation). Agree that loveseats tend to act as a large chair, so you might be better off with 2 chairs, 2 and a bench, or 4 chairs or just a 3rd chair and more room for a side table or “ breathing room”.
