Consider an edible landscape. Pomegranate grows fast once established and is rather drought tolerant (except the first year after transplanted). You can easily propagate more with Pomegranate cuttings. I've also seen a lovely living fence made of apple and pear trees. You don't need to buy the dwarf varieties. Just keep them well pruned. Grow A Little Fruit Tree.

Naked lady flowers (Amaryllis Belladonna) grow like weeds where I live in Sonoma County -- we can see 1/2 mile of them growing along the roadside in August, and I don't know of anyone who plants them intentionally. Many of them simply have been there for 20-30 years. It does not matter if you plant in part shade or in sun, although they seem a little bigger and deeper pink in sun. I don't think I've seen them in full shade, like under redwoods, but I've definitely seen them in blazing hot sun in the worst clay soil in the world, as well as in pretty dappled oak shade. Easy plant to grow if the conditions are right. I know Sonoma and Marin County both are perfect for them in August. Bloom for three weeks, maybe a month at most, and then done. Probably one of the least fussy flowers here. I plan to grow some in my back yard, along a fence, but no one seems to remember planting them who I've asked, so I'm not sure when! I am thinking maybe early Spring, just after frost, but no idea oddly, because they are just everywhere here.

The plants can be planted as close as 2 to 3 feet apart to form a privacy barrier. They don’t take up much more space than a wooden fence and make a much more attractive natural barrier.

@luis_pr That 118 weather you remember hearing about in the PNW in 2021 summer did happen! I am in SW WA / Vancouver close to Columbia River & OR border of WA. We had at least 115 for at least 3 days. They called it a ’heat dome’. It was indeed record breaking and very dangerous. Many plants died and the following year we saw dead limbs on the west side / afternoon sun side only in many of the confirs around town - Douglas Fir & cypress. It’s pretty standard to have AC in homes around here the last 20 - 25 years. We do usually have a few 90+ days each summer. This summer climate is very different than what I experienced when I lived in Puget Sound / Seattle area up north & closer to Garden Gal who I think might be out on Olympic Peninsula area up there. So, I’m just telling you that your memory is correct but that was not our norm. But, you know - climate change and all - we do seem to be trending a bit warmer for a bit longer each summer. The big difference between our heat & TX heat is that we cool down at night!
