Kousa dogwood problems-- early march planting

I live in Covington, GA.

Planted a Kousa dogwood, about 5 feet tall, bought at Home Depot in March. Since about early April the leaves have been curled up and the tree looks like it is wilting. Check the soil, moist, does this even in recent rains. Some yellow on leaves. No spots on leaves, but leaf almost looks like it is folded up. Dug nice big hole, mixed in some compost with the soil from pot.

Any ideas? Soil if anything seems wet, especially clay. Watered regularly in dry weather. Tree is in full sun except for last part of day. The one thing I did notice was that plant did not have as many roots as most potted trees (usually they are root bound) when I planted it.

Thanks. Don't want to give up on it yet

Steve
