Hi Deco! Crazy day so just hopping on and so glad to hear from you! I really like black & white buffalo check but I don't want to put the $$ into redoing the chairs again and not crazy about a buffalo check wall with the barn print. I gave a different table in the garage and the matching chairs which are X back...4 side chairs, and two with arms like the one shown. The table is more of an oval with straight legs. Possibly I could use that set, paint it, and cover the upholstered seats with black/white buffalo check. (I think I may be able to handle that upholstery myself. Put a simple tablecloth down table. Gray/white would be my 2nd choice. What color do you think would look better with barn print since it seems to be staying for sure. Would need to decide on color of paint for buffet, china cabinet and chair frames. What did you have in mind for new lamps/ height/style? I didn't want to go too big or compete with barn print. Maybe decide after the rest of room comes together? If I kept camel back upholstered chairs as is and current placement of table, "new buffet" and china cabinet, what color of paint would you suggest for furniture to help breath life into chairs? I can bring different table with chairs in sometime this week. The X chairs are in rafters of garage so need to have hubby help get them down. His back is still resting from moving buffet from basement..:( Lots of possibilities and questions here..I see painting in my future:)

Me again, Tammy. Thanks for sharing all the photos of your cozy home. If you like it the way it is, just enjoy it. If you're wanting a more modern look, start two Ideabooks on Houzz, one "Transitional" and one "Modern Farmhouse." Save photos of houses you like that seem realistic with the style of your house--the "bones" of it, and what you already have. Look up something called "negative space." Here's an article on it in Houzz. It's about the nice sense of space and flow you get when your eye can rest on empty space. Not every wall has to have some little object on it. More space means you focus on a few nice pieces, an art work, some photographs, plants, etc. so your eye doesn't get too overwhelmed at taking in too many small things. That's why I suggested removing your metal shelves in the dining room to focus on your lovely hutch, whether it has a top on it or not. Comments on your photos: --The bathroom is really nice--great paint choice; not too many knick knacks; nice shower curtain. --Sun porch: take off everything from the walls behind the corner wicker chair. If you want, add a little modern-ish reading light over the chair to suggest a cozy reading corner. One pillow--tops-per chair! How can you sit down otherwise? --Daybed/office room. If budget allows, a simple blue tailored print or solid cover would work better than the ornate spread on there now. Get a nice horizontal painting for over the daybed and remove the other little painting entirely and take off the metal thing. --Bedroom with brown tufted headboard. Hang the mirror and get yellow and blue curtains with coordinating yellow and blue shams and bedding. --Den with big brown couches. Move the sofas about a a half foot from the wall to add some visual space to the room. Move the the horse art to the window wall with nothing else--zero. That way, they'll be the first thing you see when you enter the room. Get a ledge shelf for the other wall and arrange JUST A FEW PIECES YOU LIKE ON IT! Negative space is a positive! Get a round tray for the ottoman in an accent color and leave it empty for people to put down drinks, food, etc. No pillows would be better than the floppy oversized ones on the couch that just look kind of sloppy. Less is more. --Fireplace room and everything that can be seen looks nice. If you have doodads hanging elsewhere in that room, take them down, so the focal point is that lovely fireplace. --The big bedroom. Move the mirror elsewhere. Center the dresser. It'll have more impact by itself. Again, doodads off the walls. Remove the little chest from the window. It's just another piece of visual clutter. You want a sense of the windows and light uninterrupted by that piece. Get some great curtains for this room and bedding that goes with them. With all the bitty things removed, these full curtains, hung very high and right to the floor, will have an impact. So will your nice bedroom furniture.

Your sideboard is great and is nicely styled. It really can only support two of the wooden family photos above it, though. So, I'd try that first. The living area doesn't appear to have any lights. So, I'd opt for floor lamp to the right of the TV. Rather than the fixtures you've chosen for the foyer and island, consider glass. I think the three you've chosen might be a little too much of the same and a little more input than the space can handle - with all of the lines, scroll work and patterning. The glass is simple and will fall into the background so that your chandelier can really stand out as special. I like the arch mirror you have, but am afraid it's too large for that spot. You could consider some art there, instead. The advantage to having art there is that you'll have some color for accenting, should you choose. Here are some glass lighting options to consider. The art is there to show scale and how you can pull color from it for accessories.

Goodness sorry for all the typos in original post! If o moved the art on the wall down to eye level then it’d be close to the bottom of the wall and lots of blank space up above, but I see what you mean too many small pieces…maybe I’ll find something larger that can go closer to the bottom and higher to the top. Also thanks Rachel, adding a full wall isn’t an option at this point but we do need to paint that handrail! We painted the banister 5 years ago when we moved in and never got around to the hand rails 😅
