Which Farmhouse Exterior Do You Like The Most?
Comments (81)I have been looking at these floorplans as well and have the same idea as cpartist on the exterior changes. I love the simple, more traditional look of removing the shutters an the extra garage bump out. I love the interior layouts of all of them as well, but am trying to cut corners (literally) to lessen the amount of bump outs in hopes that we can make it work with our budget. There are about 4 floor plans from the same designer that have a similar layout and range from 2000-2600 sqft. Here's the smallest of the floorplans...See MoreWanted: farmhouse table
Comments (26)Given that I got to thinking looking at my eat in kitchen table which measures 86" long. My fixture is a more minimal light meaning it's a large light yet, no shade or shades and is a very minimalistic light as in it is, "see through" such as a lantern is. It works perfectly at 25". If you can and you like this light and want to be certain what you like, I'd cut a piece of cardboard (keeping in mind it's a slightly tapered and the widest portion is the widest advertised size and at the bottom portion of the light) and suspend it from a string taping it to the ceiling 36" or so above the table. I would personally go with the larger light. I was just sitting in my family room looking at the table and decided to take the measures as it's a, "farm style" rustic table. The width at the bottom of the light is 25". However, that is at the widest point which is the point closest to the table. The width of my table is 39". Despite that if you can cut a slightly tapered cardboard piece at 17" at the portion closest to the table and a 24" piece closest to the table and slightly tapered and try them I am thinking you might go with the 24". Long story.... I know, I was just staring at it thinking you need to go a bit larger than 17". If I'm not making sense please ask... I've been out working all over town all day and was a long day :) Good night...See MoreFarmhouse Window Treatment HELP
Comments (22)I live in a city and our living room is right on the sidewalk. We keep our shades up most of the time because I love sunlight and seeing the activity on the street. It took us a long time to find the right solution - maybe a year or so. We finally got roller blinds. Nope, not the tacky vinyl ones of my childhood. We got custom roller blinds made of a white linen looking fabric with nice brass pull ring. It is safe for kids and pets. When they rolled up most of the way, the window almost looks like it has not treatment yet isn't completely naked. When they are down, they blend in perfectly with the paint and allow you to focus on the pretty frames around the window instead of on a bunch of fabric. I'm no fan of roman shades, however, I can imagine well a slouchy, relaxed, white linen roman in your dining room. As for wood blinds, I've yet to see them, no matter how expensive and custom, where they don't just remind me of a cheap tiki hut or backyard patio privacy blind....See MoreHelp decorating farmhouse style without refinishing wood floors
Comments (60)i actually do not as I have not made major changes. We ended up deciding to replace or update issues after prioritizing those that we think annoy us the most. For us, that was the exterior lighting (changed from gold to black), the first floor powder room (changed from a brass shower door to orb) and several of the fixtures. Next, we are going to swap out all of the outlets and covers from almond to white and the door levers from brass to chrome. The brushes nickel chandeliers that we installed made a huge difference. In the spring, we decided to get all new flooring, do something with those columns and paint all trim to white. The reason we held off on painting the trim was because we figured it would be easier and less expensive if we waited until taking the flooring off. Lots of work but we are happy in this house and breaking it down into manageable steps is working for us. Thanks...See Moreloobab
