Questions about outside line drying your laundry
Comments (17)Most of the time stiffness is due to laundry detergent build up or hard water conditions. It can also occur with lack of breeze. Laundry flapping in the wind is less stiff due to the fabric constantly moving. I live in a hard water area and still hang my clothes outside. I do not mind the stiffness, even in my towels and have not found the stiff towels to be less absorbent. In fact, I read somewhere, can't remember where, that still fabric is actually good for your skin as it exfoliates there in by keeping your skin healthier. Besides most stiffness goes away with wear and/or use. As for the smell of the clothing line dried, it has been my experience that unless you use a heavily perfumed detergent, the fresh air pretty much removes any scent. Now if you live in an area where the air stinks, then you may end up with that smell on your clothes. I had a prob with that a while back due to a near by resturant and all their greasy smelling cooking. My clothes were smelling like old hamburgers. Thank God they moved their business else where and I have had no further problems. Detergent build up and using fabric softner can make your clothes smell nasty too depending on what you are using, aka ingredients in them. Type of fabric can have a factor as to scent too. On a final note regarding odor in lined dried fabrics, many people are so use to the smell they get from detergents or their driers, which actually alters the smell of clothes even washed in perfume free detergents, that they have absolutely no idea what actual fresh clothing smells like. Clothes washed in a scent free detergent and then put in the drier smell different from those that are lined dried. Once you learn what an actual outdoor fresh smell is, the rest is a piece of cake....See MoreRaise Your Hand if You Have a Tile Countertop
Comments (27)Thanks everyone for your input. Ineffable, I think the other thing about Daltile is it isn't in a lot of showrooms (at least not around here). Not enough margin I suppose. The brand that had a color I liked, Pratt and Larson, does in fact have trim pieces. Scalpmetto, thanks for the grout tip. Thanks, LiveWireOak, but given the distance we are using a GC and will defer to his tile person. Eandhl, No, because I have it here in Connecticut. I was sure I wanted zinc, but it has a blue cast and is kind of cold. So I got pewter. I am very happy with it but I don't want to repeat it in my summer home, especially not for $400 sq foot. Vedazu, I will look at Sonoma too. All kidding aside, if i do wetbed (yours looks great), will I ruin the cabs if I want to take it out?...See MoreRaise your hand if you still like your floral sofa
Comments (43)Thanks for the Grandma love, olychick and missymoo. DH likes the Grandma couch, too. : ) (Can you believe it?!) Come to find out, he doesn't like leather furniture, not the way it looks, not the way it makes, we'll call them "peculiar" shall we, noises when you sit on it, that you're sitting on a "dead cow"...LOL. He's great! ; ) Not every guy could handle that kind of floral in their living room. Missymoo, you gave me a good belly laugh with the bloated leather comment. I tried to find the least bloated, but still well stuffed, leather set on Clist. So many of them look like this (there are many around, Bumblebeez!): Bloat Burger Supreme. Probably is super comfy, though. Kind of like when my son snuggles into me and says, "How come mommies are so comfy and squishy?" LOL We'll have to see if the Grandma couch is comfy or not. That's the acid test....See MoreAll year outside potted growers, how do you prevent root rot, keep dry?
Comments (25)Thanks guys! Laura, my rodent problem is mostly squirrel. They just de-pot everything. I move the plants out of the cage only when they reach a size that can handle their roughness :) Rina, yes the GH set up is not ideal for light but I did not have much other choice and still has other pros. Thanks to that roof the temps are higher longer in the winter and cooler in the summer. I don't need to heat or fan or cover. I originally got it to protect my tropicals and for seed starters. Got tired of wheeling pots in and out of the dark garage on a daily basis in winter...So these are pretty much dormant when in the GH. I built a heated chamber in the corner with the least light for my seed starters that is also supplemented with some LED. The rest is filled with young seedlings up to 1-2 year old or so. So overall not too much of a problem for this usage but if it were my property I would definitely cut out a couple of skylights on that roof :)....See Moredoreycrouse
