Question about cable modems
Comments (2)Before you spend any money's - If you have a usb cord that you can borrow that will allow you to move that usb network adapter around a little, you might find it works fine when moved even just a foot or two away from where its at. Also you might install something like inSSIDer and check/watch your signal strength to make sure youre not on a same channel a neighbor is using which will be degrading yours. Comments (2)Maybe you are using a usb connection now between the computer and modem? Login to the router and look for its DHCP configurations... hopefully you'll see its capable of handling more than one ip. I would have to assume it probably has full range of ip's. If so - All you really need is an inexpensive network switch, and some ethernet cables. Or rather than a switch you could add a wifi router configured as an access point, which would be inexpensive too. Or if you isp for some reason set the 4100 to fixed bridging mode, you can let it feed any router. Anything/everything will work standard ethernet connections. Mac, Windows, Unix, etc. ... everthing is capable of using standard ethernet connections to that modem/router. Your only problem is it only has the one ethernet port so you would at least need a four port switch. And sometimes you can buy wifi routers cheaper than standard network switches....See MoreWireless modem can't find the Mothership!
Comments (3)first thing to always try is to power down everything the pcs, the router the modem pull the power on all of them then start up in this specific order after about a 5 min rest, power to the modem let it get fully lit up, then power to the router let it get fully lit up then power to your various computers. See if that helps very often it does. You might try doing it with the laptop near the router then move it where you want it to see if it keeps the signal. Also you may have to re-enter your passcode to your wireless network again in that laptop it may not have kept it if it has been off a long time....See MoreRouter & modem, no computer.
Comments (7)Should work perfectly fine if the router broadcasts a WiFi signal (and you know the SSID/network name and password) ... otherwise you'd have to hard-wire the iPad to it. If this is a new router it may need to go through some sort of set-up routine which may require a temporary hard-wired connection with a computer. Ideally you should change the wireless network name and password from whatever is the initial default to something more secure....See Morejrb451
