Comments (2)You need some kind of waterproof material to 'shim' the upper mount. My thought is to use a hole saw to cut a piece of cement board or plexiglass. HardyBoard can be painted. Wood - that has several coats of poly would also work - since it's above the shower head....See MoreTiling Uneven floor
Comments (10)We are in the midst of a master bath reno. We are using 12"x24" rectified tile and wanted 1/16 " grout lines. The bathroom floor had some low spots and a slight slope. We had learned from using large format tile in the major part of the house that you are not able to "work" the larger tile as easily to get it flat and have no lippage or ridges. We ended up pouring a self leveling compound as someone suggested. Just a word of warning about doing it - besides the suggestions already given, be aware you have to mix it up and get it poured in 20 minutes. We had 2- 50 lb bags to mix and it has to be mixed for 2 minutes as you pour the compound in the water. Mixed with a paddle on a drill. Nearly burnt up our drill doing so. Luckily a friend just happened to stop by and he was able to pour it while hubs mixed. I did the timing. We had two heavy buckets to carry it and get poured. Hubs used our carpet rake to move it around the floor but it wasn't as easy as it looked. You would think it would run the direction it needed to but it starts to set up quickly so be prepared. Hubs said he should have made himself a tool that he could have pulled across the width of the bathroom and then one for the length. It certainly helped to get our floor level but we still had two smaller dips which he then filled in with some other material. Our floor is in now and looks beautiful. Just make sure you have enough help so that you can work quickly. I would have never been able to pour the 50 lb bag or carry one of the buckets from outside into the house....See MoreHelp on Shower Door Install- uneven tile
Comments (15)With a tub/shower combo, I am a huge proponent of curved shower rod and curtain over glass doors. It makes for a much more comfortable shower. With that layout, it will be easier to enter and exit as well. Shower curtains can be left open to show the tile. You can use them as a decorative element of the bathroom as well and they are easy to just throw in the wash and clean from time to time making them much lower maintenance than any glass door. (Squeegeeing after every shower with glass to make it easy to clean later I still feel is a hassle). Double shower hooks make for easy hanging and removal of both a liner and curtain. For a higher end look, you can put your rod at ceiling height and make a custom curtain that extends to the floor. This is not what I personally prefer as it makes it more difficult to put up and take down and since you do not have a light in the shower would make your shower too dark....See MoreShower Tile Problems - Standing Water, Uneven, and Slope
Comments (6)[Crosspost .[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/tile-installation-nightmare-dsvw-vd~4745887) You never responded about Your Contract. Lets say it is out of spec/standards Do you have a Permit a real contractor and A Contract? what do you hope to gain by posting this on multiple forums? If you have done all the proper paperwork and have documentation you even then may not have a case. Most everywhere in residential Namerica tile projects are not inspected (other than a shower base or pan & drain ) nor have any local standards to follow. This is why homeowners like you need to document things, get a contract that spells out tile standards that are non existant at the local level. If you have none of that you left yourself unprotected and are learning a hard lesson....See MoreKP Kp
