We have done this similiar situation in Maine. The climates are not that dissimliar. We have a place 4 hours from where we live fulltime and have planted many trees and shrubs. The key here is to plant in the earliest of spring that you can. This will allow the plants to experience the shock of coming out of their pot or burlap with cooler and hopefully some damper weather that spring can bring. If you see a major drought coming, you would need to get there with some water and assist the plants through the dry weather. When you plant, add a good deal of peat to the mix. This will assist in moisture retention and be very helpful. The service berries will do very well and like dampness. You really cannot kill a chokecherry but they are not a frontline specimen plant. Ninebark like full sun and are very hardy. Wild roses will also need full sun to bloom properly. I would skip the ashes for the reasons mentioned above. River birch love damp soil and can grow very quickly. The maple trees will thrive here and grow large. They will sart off slowly and grow much more quickly after a couple of years. White pine are very fragile trees when larger and tend to break branches with when snow and rain come together as many storms do. They cannot take the weight and snap. They can also grow extremely large. Willow trees grow very quicky and love damp soil as well. You can plant all of these trees in the spring, and in your situation, plant them in the early spring so they can adapt before the really hot weather of summer. I cannot stress this enough in your situation. All of these plants will need some water should you get 2-3 weeks of drought in the summer. They will all be new and will not be able to survive if the drying gets too severe. Also, you can monitor the weather in your area to see how much rain your property is getting. With a little luck, you will get some rain and augment with some watering once in a while. These are tough plants that you have selected and will survive. Also, the first year will be the most difficult. After that, they will begin to thrive on your land. Goodluck.

I hope you both are right and she was tired or confused. Believe me, to save a caliber midnight shubert I read everything available online on black knot too. However, when someone in the industry tells you they are now seeing infection in malus, you tend to believe them. I have to choose a replacement tree this year. I know that the spores are likely in the soil and whatever caused the infection is likely still upwind. Maybe a buckeye or ivory silk lilac. Have to reconsider how big I want it. Maybe even a nice evergreen. Will try posting photo when sun is out for photo taking.

Heh, then there's the aphid: All are female and the best part-they are born pregnant! Can't top that, methinks. Maackia, I was tan before going down there. Pretty funny-though not really-I get weird looks from condo owners, as if to say, what are you doing here, just because my skin tends to be darker than most Caucasians. But yes, many additional rays were gathered. In truth, I went from not being sick in fifteen years to having something now I just can't get rid of. This impinged on my Florida enjoyment and is still in play as I write. Strange is all I can say, and yes, the medical establishment has been mobilized. I think your south sun should be adequate for Sorbus. Thickets everywhere can feature one or more volunteers, be they decora, aucuparia, etc...and that's essentially the same light regime. Long story short now-on my last full day of exploring wild lands (such as are left) in SW Florida. I wanted to go to this one state park but with the heavy rains, those trails were mostly under water, so wandered around and ended up stumbling across the Estero River Preserve, a location I'd been meaning to check out. Walked a trail down to the river, actually dozed off for a few minutes, and when I awoke, was looking at a sign stating that the adjacent area was a bird-nesting area, so please do not enter. While reading this sign, heard loud crashing noises in the scrub. So, backing out of there-I knew this was not a squirrel!-I spied a large downed log which had turned black. As I peered at it, as if in a dream, I noticed this large downed log was moving, had ears, a snout, and was yes-a large black bear, maybe one hundred ft. away from me. This was a big bear-I'd estimate 4 to 5 hundred pounds! I very cautiously backed out of there, taking pains to not snap a stick, not kick a stone, until such a time as I felt safe to go into normal speed-walking mode. That bear proved to not be interested in me. I can assure you that had it gone otherwise, they'd probably still be looking for me. Nobody knew exactly where I was that day, and I had no weapon nor even bear spray along. Funny, I've got this land up north here that evidence shows us to be full of bears, yet we never see them. So here I am one thousand miles from home, on the Gulf of Mexico more or less, when I see the big bear.

Yes, pinch off the sprouts below the height where you want the branches to start. Unless that would result in most of them being removed, in which case you should wait until it is tall enough.

On another subject it needs a grass free area of some size made around it so the grass and grass maintenance activities do not interfere with it.

Sorry, I’m confused? I remove them or not? Leaving just a few at the top? I have no idea. :/

Re: grass. I plan to give it good space away from grass to avoid interference.

With a small, recently transplanted tree such as yours, the fewer leaves you remove the better. Possibly remove a few of the bottom most on the trunk. There will be plenty of time, after the tree develops a strong root system and more of a top to structure prune into the form of a tree. So no hurry to do anything at this point.

every leaf is a food making machine,. to feed the roots.. so they can get established ... so leave all of them there ...

perhaps in fall dormancy.. remove some of the lower ones ....

and then.. as the tree continues to mature... you can keep taking a few more each season ...

think in tree time.. which is years.. not weeks or months ...
