Let's say, you like all the other aspects of LG. Is Miele really going to work 6 times longer? Technically it could. My parents had a fridge for 40 years. However, do you want a fridge for that long? First of all, if you move, will you take it with you? In some states, people do take them while in some others, the fridge is part of the house and stays. But even if you do take it with you, large appliances often do not survive the move and never function the same. And what about ever changing technology? I am sure something more energy efficient and possibly better in other ways is "just around the corner". :-) For example, I really wanted a Miele washer 10 years ago but bought a Whirlpool Duet pair instead for several reasons, one of them being a larger capacity (it was right before Miele started making full-size washers for the US market). The Duet still works though the washer may be slowly dying. The new models have a lot of nice options unavailable 10 years ago, like steam, etc. I will not feel the least sorry replacing a $1200 washer after 10 years by something more advanced but I would if I paid $12K for it. However, I do not have disposable income. If I did, I probably wouldn't hesitate to get something I really loved, no matter how expensive. I am not saying OP should get an LG. I too have heard reports of service problems. But if it has a reasonable longevity expectation, I wouldn't spend 6 times more just in hopes of something working longer - unless it is a fully integrated unit and I know I will not be able to match the panels down the road because I am using some exotic wood or something. BTW, there are reports of problems with Miele as well. Just my two cents...

I don't have the same LG model as you are looking for but have an LG 3 door French version that we bought new in July 13. It was a replacement for a 20 year old side-by-side so I admit that I was captivated by the interior lighting and more efficient configuration. However, I would not buy an LG again for these reasons: - ice maker is always jammed; when this happened the first time a few months after purchase, a repair person came out and "fixed" it. The fix lasted for a few weeks and since then has not worked. Seems like this is a known problem. It makes ice but the ice gets stuck and frozen into the dispenser. To remove the clogged ice is a physical effort of pulling and digging and creates a huge mess of crushed ice everywhere. Note that I have diligently followed the tips from the repair person to keep it working, to no avail: avoiding the crushed ice mode and dispensing ice at least once a day. - in less than 3 years I have had to replace a side door compartment and two crisper drawers. These cheap plastic parts crack very easily under normal wear and tear. - the freezer consistently creates frost build up and freezer burn on the food. - getting a repair person from the LG website is a huge hassle. Their website is glitchy and not user friendly at all.

I don't believe the problem is hard water, because before I purchased the LG refrigerator, I had a GE and never had a trace of any powder or "Calcium Carbonate". LG obviously does not know why their product is creating the white powder, but they need to take responsibility and resolve this problem!

On a quick glance, the Signature fridge has a 3-year limited warranty for parts and labor, and the Studio fridge has a 2-year limited warranty for parts and labor. The Signature fridge specifies it has dual evaporators. The Studio fridge says it has "LG's Smart Cooling System" and does not mention whether it has dual evaporators or not, so probably not. Two evaporators allow the freezer and refrigerator compartments to be cooled independently, vs a single evaporator cooling both the freezer and the refrigerator compartments.
