Any good French Door Refrigerators out there?
Comments (46)We have LG FD CD fridge, model LG LFC21776ST. Note that this does NOT have ice/water through the door, a specific requirement of mine. It has an icemaker in the bottom freezer which (touch wood) works perfectly. We were limited to this size because of the cabinetry in our kitchen. I originally thought the fridge was way too small, but so far I'm very happy. It's superquiet and efficient, everything is in sight, the lighting, drawers and shelf arrangements work well for us. When it was delivered DH was concerned that it was taking so long to get the temperature down so we called LG's customer service. They had a repairman at our house within a day. He told us everything was operating normally, and the fridge was slow because it's a high-efficiency appliance. Other than this, we have no complaints in about 10 months of use. Comments (19)10 years ago, I really wanted the water/ice dispenser so we got it. I will never get another one. What a big mistake. There was alays ice dropped on the hardwood floor. It was hard for me to get the ice without having some drop on the floor. With 2 kids, these are type of things that are hard to "teach" well enough to avoid the problem every single time. It actually died once and had it repaired. Then it died again with the flap in the open position. We disconnected dispenser and closed the flap so the air would not get into the freezer all the time. I think a problem with these is that everytime you use it, it lets in room air into the freezer compartment. This causes a large amount of humidity (it has to do with the relative humidity difference between room temperature and freezer compartment) and the water freezes out and causes freezer burn to the food. It's like briefly opening and closing the freezer door everytime you use the ice dispenser. Many people like them very much but not for me....See MoreRefrigerator, Need water and Ice in door,SxS or bottom freezer
Comments (22)Carmela39 The ice issue is not a problem if you intend to use the dispenser as you described. It is not convenient to just put your hand into the ice tray to "get a handfull", otherwise it operates like any other auto icemaker/dispenser. The cabinet vs full depth is an appearence issue if the grey side of the cabinet is unappealing to you. You will see a full 6 inches of the painted side and additionally the half inch or so of the door gasket and then the depth of the stainless door with the full depth Samsung refrigerator with 24 inch deep cabinets (standard). Recessing the rear wall as I have indicated is the option many have taken (I was unable to do this since I live in an attached townhouse and this was the attached wall). If your contractor suggests this will be difficult I would defer to him (the issue is more than making the wall a few inches narrower). Regarding the availability of the reported CD Samsung french door model I refer you to the posting "Please Help- French Door Refrigerator Questions" on 7/18/07 at 16:11. Within this thread (near the end) is a posting by Britter making reference to the "new CD model". There were additional inquiries as others are also interested in this model. I would suggest contacting your dealer or his factory rep. for more information/verification. Finally, I have some photos of my installation but I am unaware of the method of posting/sharing them. Good luck tonight and feedback you decisions. Cuse69...See MoreBest basic refrigerator - no icemaker, water?
Comments (7)I was very frustrated during the search for appliances. As you noted, there is no shortage of opinions, and here I am adding my own. This forum did help me though and I looked extensively at consumersearch.com for background and comparisons of the reviewers. As for the KA fridge, I have only owned it for a few months, started using it in June, so I can't comment on reliability over the long run or repair record. I can say it keeps food quite well, holds enough in both freezer and fridge and fits nicely in the space we have. Ours is stainless steel, my husbands preference, and I sometimes refer to it as "my aircraft carrier." Because it is cabinet depth it has to be wide and high - 36x72 - and I am only 5 feet tall. I can reach everything though. The door holds a lot and the shelves slide out. The cheese drawer is big as is the vegetable crisper. What I don't like is that there is only one drawer for produce. I like to keep veggies separate from fruits. Another feature I like is that it is well lighted inside with light bulbs in several places and a switch so you can turn off the ice maker. And it is energy efficient. I hope this helps you more than it adds to the confusion....See MoreRelated Professionals
