Porch Decor/Front of House Facelift
Comments (4)That huge tree should be looked at by a pro to see if it is a risk. I would remove the two bushes at the entrance. They look uninviting and act like a visual gate saying "Keep out!" Extend those two beds so they curve on up the sidewalk toward the porch for a more welcoming look. Have a landscape architect plan the installation for something interesting and/or blooming all year round. I'd remove anything growing near the house foundation that doesn't bloom. Light, airy and more loose plantings will be more friendly and appealing. For the porch, I think it would be more interesting to re-work the door area. I can't tell what the trim piece above it is, but the lights are too small. I would get a door with glass that repeats the design of the other windows and paint it white so you can keep the storm door. If you want to remove the railing, replace it with low planter boxes sitting on the porch floor. Fill them with seasonal annuals and/or greenery at different times of the year. If you keep the railing, add planters to them. If you sit out there, some space between the boxes could be bench seats that look like the planter boxes....See MoreFront facelift for a riverfront home
Comments (10)I would put a white picket fence across the right front side of the home, with a corner angled back to the right, creating an enclosed area. I would create a cottage garden inside and outside of the space, spilling out int curved beds on the street side. This is a gorgeous home as it is right now. Removing the shutters and then painting the front door and sidelights the same color to give it more presence would be all that your friend might do. Landscaping would take it to the next level. Comments (1)I’d do something more countryish. Woods or white. Remove the shutters New outdoor lighting Maybe a cushion on the bench to add some color ......See MoreNeed ideas to give front of house a facelift!
Comments (9)I agree that this is a landscaping issue, but would also suggest that the railing around the porch roof is not a positive feature, especially since it is obvious there is no access through that window. I would remove the railing detail. I would also remove the shutters from the double window upstairs on the right. Pop your front door with brass hardware and a brass kickplate. I don't see any lights on your porch. Can you remedy that? Replace the tan urns with larger ones in black or charcoal that stand on a foot like shown above but much larger. Fill with a bonsai twist evergreen covered with some tiny battery operated lights. For the season, surround the base of the urns with low pots of red poinsettias. IMO, your white trim is just a bit too bright and contrasting, but you can always change that next time you paint....See Moreflyr4fun
