Wow! Thank you everyone for the great responses!!! I usually hang out in the house building and kitchen forum and I'm thrilled to see this forum tends to be just as great! I'm not planning on putting up window treatments anytime soon for a few reasons (have other things I want to buy first, no need for the privacy with them due to no houses behind us, and would hate to cover up the trim at the top). I'm glad to see mixed responses because I feel that's exactly what I have about the whole issue! Olychick, those photos helped tremendously and give me peace of mind about it because I think those rooms are beautiful. Thanks again! P.S. Any suggestions on how to do window treatments without covering my molding on the top?

oofasis -- Calico Corners has wonderful sales throughout the year, and I think they do first-rate work, at least the four CCs (although I think they're now calling themselves Calico Home) in two states I've used have done incredible work. Earlier this year (as in September, maybe?) I ordered a king headboard, bedskirt and dummy panels from them and because of the sale I think all of it was like $1400. ??? I should double-check the receipt, but that's the number which is sticking in my head. (It was a sale on both fabric and labor!) I know the headboard alone was ~$700 (again, the sale price) which astonished me (because I'd been expecting to spend at least twice that). Anyway, get on their mailing list. (snail-mail) They'll send you postcards announcing their sales. Oh, you can pretty easily make your own upholstered headboard -- I did it, but I have to say that the CC headboard does cartwheels around mine (and mine was quite good, if I can immodestly write). Oh, there's a gal here who recently made her own tufted headboard -- texas something. Look for her and headboard in the search feature -- she gave a good play-by-play of how she made it.

The off center placement will be tricky, but the other option is to switch walls, and place the triple dresser there. You will see the dresser upon entering the room, and the headboard to the bed will be to the wall to your right as you enter, or opposite the dresser. Here's the dresser: which is nearly 6 feet wide. and this is the opposite wall to where the bed is now, and also the room entrance: (none of those items will stay in the room) I have already purchase long, green curtains in a faux dupioni silk material (Target!) and will hand them on a dark turned wood rod (yet to be bought).

Hi Gray, yes, for example I had a set of upholstered armed dining chairs with a print that had some color in it I did not like. So, I just painted over that color. It's monotonous work! However, six armchairs with front and back upper and lower upholstery would have cost me a bundle if I wanted to have them re-done. If you do it right and use good textile paint no one can tell. With the Jacquard brand you can use it on natural or synthetics. You are meant to run over it with a warm iron on the reverse side if you are using for clothing for a "set". I never used an iron but never used it on clothing. I think they just have that on the label to cover the Permanent*Washable/Drycleaning*Nonfading/Lightfast claims. If omitting a color with textile paint you can't rush it. You need some good quality paint brushes. I prefer oil brushes or a semi medium stiff real bristle brush. The size would depend on your project. A small 2.5 oz container covers a lot of ground as I like to water it down a bit, paint a light layer, dry and another light layer. That whole headboard took slightly over one 2.5 oz bottle, maybe just under a container and a half. You can put as many layers on as you like. By doing it that way it still feels like fabric when done, not painted fabric. You will also need a plate to swish your brush across after loading with paint to get the paint around equally within the brush as well as to remove excess and will also need a rag or paper towel if you need to blot. Or, a stencil if you are adding a pattern! I soft brush it all out when dry but some do it while still wet.
