Comments (28)I'd love to hear the news and see the pictures too, Paula. I honestly have no idea how the day went! When you are putting on an event, and leading tours, the day goes by much too quickly. I took not a single photo, and hope that folks who did come are willing to share. I saw Daun, and Michael AT, and several of the Vintage friends, so folks certainly turned out. If Aprille was here, I didn't get to meet her. From my perspective, it was a great day, although it was quite hot. The roses loved it, and many opened obligingly throughout the day. Many people bought roses, and I think that we are set with enough money in the budget for another year's operations. Heartfelt thanks to everybody who came to help (Jeri and Clay for the great catalog, especially) and everyone who came for a lovely day. The folks who stayed overnight are planning to meet up tomorrow morning for just a little more time in the cemetery. It's hard to tear away... Anita...See MorePossible new pond club in Sacramento, CA
Comments (5)Hi Sandy, IPaWGS is a branch of the International Professional Pond Contractors Association (IPPCA). The idea for IPaWGS started about 4 years ago who's time has come. Besides being currently a national pond society that will be international someday it also an important part of the IPPCA legislative action team(LAT). Why a does the industry need a LAT? The problem is that there are too many government bodies in this country that are trying to control or regulate the pond industry or hobby. As examples of what is taking place in this country some of the major government actives in 2008 were the EPA water sense program that wanted to ban all water features on all new homes that were following the water sense program. There was also the state of Wisconsin that was about to in act a regulation that would have ban Koi or Goldfish from any open air pond. Then there is Utah that in acted a measure to require a permit to have koi. Than there was lots of other things on a local level that have effects on ponds. And these are just a sample of the ones we know about and the ones we don't know about. For those who think that there is nothing to worry about just live in the state of Maine. For years now it has been illegal to have koi in that state. Mike...See MoreBest place for Ranunculus in Sacramento garden?
Comments (6)I grow mine in full sun in my Native/Summer Dormant garden. The area is mostly grasses (Deer Grass, Blue Festuca and Mexican Feather Grass,) but during the spring it's a riot of color with lots of penstemons, poppies, mimulus and rananculus. I don't water this area at all during the summer. These are native to regions that experience summer drought, and so will appreciate a dry dormant period in order to return the following spring. However, if you have no intent on keeping it for the following year, you can continue to water throughout the summer, and they will typically reach a point where their roots rot and then you can just toss them....See MoreSac Historic Cemetery Rose Garden under attack by City of Sacramento
