So let's say I don't want to go the Wolf range route...
Comments (25)Kitten, I'm with breezy on this. Forget the brand name or any perceived pretension that comes with it. Assuming it fits your budget, the main factors you need to worry about are is it reliable and does it meet your needs? This is your kitchen and you need to live with and use it on a daily basis. I ended up with a 48" range. One of my design goals was to maximize counter and storage space. I started out wanting wall ovens, but that sacrificed counter space. The 48" is a good compromise, because although it is 48" wide, it can double up as counter space as needed. I have a cover over my grill and I routinely use it and adjacent unused burners for either mis en place or plating. It's also a great landing area for items coming out of the oven. Depending on your counter material, you have zero worries about hunting for a trivet. You should also reconsider whether you really need a DF range. I have an AG and I don't miss any of the electric features in a main oven. I admit, I do also have a GE Advantium which does have all the whiz-bang features. But it needs those features to work properly. When it comes to the oven, it's just set the temp and bake or roast. It is a minor inconvenience that there is no auto on/off or timed cooking feature. But that just means I have to hang around. The upside is that I have zero fears about using the self-clean feature of my oven because there are no digital electronics to fry. Do go through the exercise of redesigning with a wall oven. But don't let superficial concerns drive you to go in a direction that doesn't meet your needs....See MoreClothes that don't go in the dryer - best practice?
Comments (11)My laundry room is in the basement. This method only works if you have clothes lines; Get some nylon netting and clothespin it between two clothes lines so it becomes a flat surface. One end of the netting, clipped on one line and the other end clipped on the line next to it. (Or further over if your lines are real close.) This a a good method to use if you live in an apartment building with a shared laundry room, and can't hog the top of the dryer for drying. This method is portable and does not take up hardly any room for storage when not in use - nice if you have a tiny laundry room. If you have to air dry a lot of things every time you do laundry, why not install a permanent dryer screen(s). Get some window screens that are all PLASTIC, no metal, with either the screen or the frame. Then mount them to the wall at a convenient height or like bookshelves. This frees up floor space, that you would lose by using those fold up dryers or a lawn chair....See MoreHelp-My DH is going to kill me if I don't make a decision
Comments (4)Lsudude, About your counter top, sink dilemma: It seems a shame to give up "His and Her" sinks on a counter top so long. Have you thought about adding an outlet behind the knee hole- Possibly with access from the drawer in the vanity to keep your iron and hairdryer? There are pictures on this forum showing that. Alternatively, add an outlet on the wall behind the kneehole- Plug your appliances into the outlet and attach hooks on the sidewall of the vanity (kneehole wall) and hang your appliances. This second way is what we did- as the first wasnÂt feasible. The existing wall outlet can be used when needed- recharging a toothbrush or shaver- since relocating the outlet to the medicine cabinet wasnÂt feasible either. About the sinks- everyone has their own preference. I like the look of "Under-counter" sinks on a counter of that length. Vessel sinks would be very dramatic as well. The smooth lines of the under counter sinks in the granite appealed to me. My granite fabricator included cutting the holes for the sinks, drilling the holes for the faucets and mounting the sinks in his cost. Comments (39)Holly-Kay and Linelle, I do the same thing out of the corner of my eye. My vet told me not to worry; this is a good thing. I also hear him in his quietness sneaking up beside me to sit on the piano bench that I keep by the computer, reserved for him at the end of the day. It seems to dissipate for a while but it will return and I am happy when it does. I don't want to forget the gentle sweet baby that patted my cheeks each morning to awaken me or purred me to what he thought was sleep and then went on his merry way seeing things that I never could, chasing things that were not there and enjoying the aloneness of the house in the darkness of night....See More- 6 years agolast modified: 6 years ago
