Help-My DH is going to kill me if I don't make a decision

I was only redoing the tub and shower. The prefab marble keeps separating and water is getting to the sheet rock (no hardiboard behind tub or shower)

DH very anxious about cost so I've been doing side jobs to save up. The tile guy questioned DH why we weren't redoing the countertop (also prefab marble) will stand out as dated if not changed. "So here it goes..." says DH.

Shower-final on matte artisan brown 6x6 tile in staggered pattern.

Accent? Want to do a glossy glass tile about 6ft high (love the Dahl maracas in oak moss but it's so expensive. Trying to match the samples to ebay sellers.

Shower door from basco frameless pivot (only frameless on top) to cut costs

Tub- Size? Was going w/6 ft but I'm 5ft. Read that I would float up if my feet couldn't push against the end.

Style? Anyone have kohler archer or devonshire or jacuzzi amiga?

Decor? It's 2 sided thinking about tiling front and top with brown tile and using the glossy mosaic as a border going around the tub. Would love to see use of glass tile in combo with other kinds on tub.

Counter- It's 93x22 Typical 2 sink with drawer/vanity space in the middle with the big mirror across the span. When facing on left is the tub of the foot and on the right is the shower. Anyway I found a guy who would do the granite and installation for $400. My DH just okayed it! But, seems like such a waste of space. We don't even use the right sink because that is where our outlet is that we use for the iron, hairdryer etc. Any suggestions of something I could do my self (not buying a new vanity) Before I start the countertop ?

Sinks? vessel, drop in or sunken - are they the same price to install?

Oh yeah and fixtures!! Trying to shop net on that one as well. I'm making a trip to Luter's plumbing supply in Miss. tomorrow if I can get a sitter! (Only 2 hours away from home) Any help on any questions would be much appreciated!!!

About your counter top, sink dilemma: It seems a shame to give up "His and Her" sinks on a counter top so long. Have you thought about adding an outlet behind the knee hole- Possibly with access from the drawer in the vanity to keep your iron and hairdryer? There are pictures on this forum showing that. Alternatively, add an outlet on the wall behind the kneehole- Plug your appliances into the outlet and attach hooks on the sidewall of the vanity (kneehole wall) and hang your appliances. This second way is what we did- as the first wasnÂt feasible. The existing wall outlet can be used when needed- recharging a toothbrush or shaver- since relocating the outlet to the medicine cabinet wasnÂt feasible either.
About the sinks- everyone has their own preference. I like the look of "Under-counter" sinks on a counter of that length. Vessel sinks would be very dramatic as well. The smooth lines of the under counter sinks in the granite appealed to me. My granite fabricator included cutting the holes for the sinks, drilling the holes for the faucets and mounting the sinks in his cost. ( No plumbing)

Thanks Pam. My granite guy just flaked on me. I knew it was too good to be true. He was really nice he said he just did the math wrong and it'll be $600. I know that's probably a good price, but DH just barely okayed on the other price. How much was your granite per sq? Have you heard of pre-fabricated granite?

Edna's Mom, We all start somewhere. As I wrote, I have my doubts about your plants being C.g., but I've been wrong before. But in the end, it doesn't really matter if they are what they were sold as; it would be nice if they were, but even if they aren't they're nice columnar cacti. One nice thing about them - if they aren't C.g., you and Edna will be able to see visible growth in your lifetime and flowering, too, if things go right. And, yes, you can legally purchase real saguaros. The label you embedded is standard for any plant leaving AZ. CA (as one of the nearest states) requires it, as would many agricultural states. I'm sorry y'all didn't get what you thought you would be, but it could be that the company doesn't know otherwise - it would be fraud if they did. And they could make the defense that it is a saguaro - a South American one (marketing mishmash). There are many South American genera/species that look like a C.g., but Carnegia, a monotypic species (the only one in the genus) is strictly North American - Arizona, Mexico and a small part of CA. I don't know if it is more widespread in Arizona than Mexico. John, Well, then, what I'm suggesting is a family tradition. And it is too cute for words....

I am planning on re-sealing my redwood deck. The deck is made of clear heart redwood (15 years old). I've cleaned the deck and done light sanding where necessary. In the past I've used Superdeck Brand(natural) to treat the surface. But its been 7 years since I did the last treatment. CR came out with their latest rating of sealants, and Superdeck is not listed (not sure if was included in the testing). Anyway, I would like to use a clear or semi-transparent treatment that would get me at least 2-yrs of protection, but still show the natural deep redwood color. I live in the SF Bay area. The deck has an eastern exposure (morning to mid-afternoon sun). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Funny thing...I can anything I want, and don't have to ask or consult my hubby. Of course, aside from being a wage earner and contributing to the household income, I am also frugal and good with money and decisions regarding money...I have been accused on more than a few occasions of still having my communion money :) ...thus, I do realize that does make a difference and factor into the equation. One other point, my daughter can buy anything she wants as well, and doesn't have to justify it with her hubby...She as well, is gainfully employed. The reason I mention this is cause they say, you marry your Father...in this case it's true. Joann

Why not have Ikea help with the design their designers are the most knowlegable about their product. I have the old ones from them in a the high gloss white and they still look like new 11 yrs later. I use Ikea in many of my design projects with great results.

Look at prefab granite bathroom counters. you can DIY it pretty easily. Need a truck or SUV to carry it home :)

The price of granite varys, according to size and pattern.
For example our remnant of Blue Pearl- was $57/sq.ft. but our large piece for the other bathroom Juparana Florence was $66/sq ft. The price included the backplashes and sidesplash, but all sink cutouts and edges and installation fee for less than 30sq. ft were extra. We probably could have gotten it cheaper, but we liked the attitude of the fabricator.
$600 for everything BUT the cost of the is probably a reasonable figure
