It looks like it's painted a putty color--if it were stained like the cabinets in the foreground it would look pretty nice. I don't like it as it is.

I think it's a great look for something like that small hutch section but it might be too much for a whole kitchen.

My 1915 kitchen had beadboard in the back of the cabinets, though no telling if it was originally stained or painted. You can see a bit of the beadboard "backsplash"; there was also beadboard behind the cabinet doors, including the lower cabinet on the same wall. I suspect this was originally a built-in hutch in a unfitted kitchen. Please don't judge my housekeeping by this gross pic, this was the night before demo!

It looks like your inspiration pic may also have beadboard inside the glass display? I think it's a neat look, though I'd be more enthusiastic about it in hutch or display areas, where the wood wouldn't be literally splashed on.

I like the green stain in caligirl's kitchen, but no, normally I can't abide beadboard in natural wood stains. I'm old enough to remember when ginger-colored matchboard was the bane of updaters everywhere. Ick.

I'd kind of forgotten how horrid it can be till a charity show house updated an old beach house here that had that throughout the kitchen. The before was very dreadful, and you know I tend to agitate for keeping what you can. Not that time.

Mother did it twice. Matched with her stained cherry wood cabinets. I think it is a nice traditional look. Behind the stove was same but they added a piece of glass to keep it clean.

Admittedly, our kitchen will not please everyone, but that was never our goal.

We tried to have something we thought fit with our 1915 house. It's been finished almost 2 years now, and I love it more everyday. We've had a couple of complete strangers ask, "Are these original?"

The shop that built the cabinets took the beadboard we had built, and stained and finished it, then my husband put it in.
