Fast/cheap way to solve a Central texas shade problem?

We fell in love with the sun setting right over our fence in Central Texas. Unfortunately, that also means we get the blazing Texas sun in full force over our backyard in the afternoon. That means, our son really can't play outside in the afternoon, nor can we really use the backyard (unless we want a good sun tan).

So now we're now looking for the cheapest/fastest way to make our backyard usable again. For the patio, for example, we got a solar shade. The total cost with install was $200, which is great since it gave us back the patio. And now we're thinking maybe a "giant umbrella" to make a livable toddler area. Any fast-growing tree recommendations?

- we looked at bur oak but not sure if that'll grow fast enough

- maybe pine trees?

- i suppose fast-growing privacy trees would also work

- any other furniture recommendations?
