I don't think it necessarily needs to be art, a mirror would work well too. Personally, I love mirrors at the entrance to let guests do a quick check by the door. How large is this wall? I am thinking that plates and lamps would be too skimpy. But I really love the idea of blue and white on the brown. Can you post a picture of the console table still behind the sofa so we can see it?

What would help create a transitional zone is putting a piece of vertical art in your gray, blue, white palette on the blank wall to the left. Paint the switch plates to match the walls.
