Granite Countertop to go with Maple Cabinet?
Comments (13)My kneejerk reaction is that with both colors of cabinets, you are looking at a wood with yellow undertones, so I would avoid a granite with deep orange or red undertones. However, your question is really broad in scope. What is your vision for your kitchen? Have you taken the Sweeby test? There are so many directions you can go with your countertop choice that would work well with your cabinets, which is why you need to develop a vision. I speak from experience on this one. And it didn't help that I fell in love some very different granites. Part of my problem was that my kitchen was SOO bad, they all looked good by comparison. Besides going to stone yards, it might help to look at more kitchens to have a better idea of what you like. Pretend you're a home buyer and go to open houses this weekend. Visit the fancier remodeling companies in your town that have demo kitchens, even if you know it's not your budget. Invest in some magazines and books from Home Depot or Barnes & Noble. Your library may have a few but most of my library's were too dated to be helpful. I used sticky notes and then went over my faves with DH... Ultimately, I found two or three inspiration pictures--one of them was a kitchen here on GW. Oh, and when shopping at the stoneyards, take a door sample with you; Home Depot checked one out to me. It's hard to remember color precisely. HTH...See MoreWhich white granite and backsplash to go with my blue gray cabinets?
Comments (9)THANK YOU ALL for the great suggestions! I'm definitely going to go lighter for the countertops then! Showed all the comments to my hubby as well to convince him ;) At the warehouse now... just found out slab #3 (light gray and white) has a "smiley face" crack on it :/ I'll have to see if the fabricator can work around it. The "super white" looks super gray here. The frosty carrina looks great but still a little expensive for us :( Aprilneverends-You're so right about the movement on the cabinets! We had painted over builder's oak. That is a big factor that I'm considering when picking the movement on the countertop Aboxofcrayons-I love your cabinets! Is it the distressed wood look? I would love to see your kitchen once the countertops are installed! Oldbat2be- I have laminate right now and there are few burn spots on it too. I'm dying for something new, glossy, and durable :) Torreykm-We had our cabinets painted with a gray stain. I originally wanted a distressed wood or driftwood look. Our GC ended up painting it! We just left it then lol. I can find out which color and brand we used and I can post it here when I get back home :) I'll keep you guys posted! Thanks so much again!!!...See MoreDoes this granite go with my cabinets???
Comments (22)Donna take a look at Giallo Ornamental granite with your cabinets. It has lots of flecks instead of movement and looks good with many wood tones. Also note there is a Giallo Ornamental Dark and a Giallo Ornamental Light. At first glance, it appears the Light should go better with white cabinets, but when you look closely, there is a lot of different color flecks which looks good with different shades of brown cabinets, including the golden oak. The Light does not have the gold background. It is a granite that can look good with warm or cool tones of paint. My daughter installed it in two different bathrooms with medium warm brown vanities and it was beautiful. She used Revere Pewter in one bathroom and Sea Salt in the other with very neutral floor tiles. Both bathrooms were beautiful, but each looked different....See MoreWhat color cabinets will go with Juparana Colombo Gold countertops?
Comments (10)It's too small for the bold veining in the granite, and the contrasting grout makes it more pronounced/busy. You don't need a picture behind the cook top , either. Keep it VERY simple, The granite is plenty of power : ) A soft white ceramic subway in a newer size, like 2 x 10, or 4 x 12....and match the grout,. Done. Depending cabinet color selection....See Moredeegw
