Beth.......... You have my greatest sympathies. Gardening on multiple levels has felt totally impossible from the beginning. When I am working on one level, the weeds are thriving on the other levels. Argggggggh. Hauling mulch up from the street level to the gardening levels is hard labor, too. I thought it was my time management that was the problem. The problem is that it is incredibly difficult for one person to manage all of that work. Then add the heat we both experience and it just gets overwhelming. I did check with the lady who runs our local garden center and she did say that Preen will not harm the roses. I may not like using chemicals to control weeds, but I have had to give up and use some. You have so many beautiful roses, I know this must be very distressing for you. I wish I'd known about the Billy Goat. In 2007 we had a hurricane force storm here and it blew a wall of windows out of my semi enclosed front porch, across a side yard and some of it close to my neighbors front door, but reasonably large pieces. I picked up glass for days (wearing just surgical type latex gloves), and was finding bits here and there working in the flower bed under that window wall (which then became a solid sheet of safety glass just faux framed to look like individual panes) still 5 years later when we moved. DH was confident he'd gotten most smaller bits with our strongest bagging mower, and no accidents happened, not with us or the neighbors pets. But I really sympathize with you, this sounds like smaller shards and I had no children playing there. Even though it was Dec, we had no snow to complicate things either. The same color looks much darker on a horizontal surface than a vertical one. I have the same color on our screened porch siding, wood floor and ceiling and it looks completely different on each of those three surfaces. High ceilings look better with a darker paint, imo (unless they have a lot of plaster medallion ornamentstion in a really formal room--- those are best left white).This is our library colour scheme....BM Golden Straw on the walls, BM Linen on the molding, SW custom green black on the doors and transom and SW China Doll on the 14 ft ceiling. I was lying in the sofa and was struck with the similarity of wall and ceiling combination with your room. Of course, it looks totally different during the day and at different times of the day :-)

Perhaps the door was originally not seated properly and was allowing just enough air so the limit switch did not trip. But when you took the door off and closed it again, you may have made a tighter seal and that little bit of air is no longer reaching the burner. It is an old furnace so anything is possible.
