Please Help! Can I save my rotting cactus?
Comments (9)Rachel, it's very hard for me to make an assessment when I am not physically there to examine your plant. I don't quite understand what you mean by soft but not overly. I see that your last picture you had lost a couple of stems, so perhaps if its really rot setting in the base, you need to catch where is the rot happening at. If it's right under all the stems towards the roots, you are better of cutting off as much rot/brown portion as possible until you see healthy green stems, and try to root the cutting as best as you can. At this point, you can try to snap 1 or 2 healthy cuttings at the tip end towards the base. Always let the cuttings dry up and callous before their to root them in new soil. And also make sure when you snap them apart, the stem must be close as to the root base as possible, if you can snap some roots with the stem even better....See MoreIs my succulent drying or rotting? Comments (8)Hi @Crenda! Thank you so much for the help! Repotting - No, I didn't repot it (it was repotted from a different container to my pink pot by the seller before shipment though). It came overflew with the soil (please see the photo below, I took pictures of every little step because it is my first succulent/plant ^^). To "clean the mess", I went ahead and dump the overflew soil into my blue pot (arrgggg). Roots - How do I tell if the roots look healthy? I took a picture of the root just now. Something terrible happened while trying to take a picture of the root :'( I was trying to get a good angle of the roots and dropped the succulent by accident… I went ahead and put in the overflew soil. Is it going to die for sure now? :'( How it arrived (overflew) Photo before purchase: Day 3 (Today) Photo of the root: Day 3 (Today) Photo after refilling: Soil content - Yes, the soil came with the kit. Unfortunately all it says on the pocket is "natural potting mix". I did contact the seller after reading your message, so hopefully I will find out what is in there soon. Window direction - oh goodness I am directionally challenged :x if my phone is accurate, it is facing north. I do have a facing south window that I might be able to use. @socks, Oh no. It is planted low due to my mistake. It came overflew with the soil (please see the photo below, I took pictures of every little step because it is my first succulent/plant). To "clean the mess", I went ahead and dump the overflew soil into my blue pot (arrgggg). Spraying - the kit came with a little spray bottle, so I assumed I should use it :x White crumbles - Not sure x.x I did contact the seller after reading the comments though, so hopefully I will find out soon. Yes, it looks like the pink pot has more content than the baggie of soil. Thank you so much for being so kind, helpful, and encouraging! :)))...See More(trying to) Save a Rotting Succulent
Comments (9)I am sure that any fallen plants or parts of will be swept away, into garbage. I definitely agree with asking for any and taking fallen, broken plants or pieces of. I have and likely will in the future too - if I should see any. I do not care about buying rotted or diseased plants. There is plenty of damage done by watering willy-nilly, and cramming them wherever. I do not like idea of store employee allowing anyone to pluck leaves from potted plants for sale - maybe good for that person...but I wouldn't want to shop after someone was plucking leaves off plants, and I would have to pay full price for plant that was picked over. I would imagine that you wouldn't like it either...So if you declined, great!!! JMO...will not be surprised if someone doesn't agree with me and ask me to shut up (maybe not using those words...but suggesting such)...See MoreStem rot; possible to save?
Comments (8)Karen- The "rocks" on top are just perlite-the plants are in a 50/50 mix of AV soil and perlite. I have been researching Violet care. My other violets seem to be doing better so far. They already look much better than they did a couple months ago. -- Vikki- They used to be in a much darker area before I moved them after receiving advice from a previous topic I posted. They look much better now than they did back then. Also when I mentioned the "once to twice per week" it wasn't intended to be an official schedule; just a general estimate of when I water based on the moisture of the soil. The mix I'm using is pretty airy and dries easily. -- Regarding the sucker-I've placed it over a jar of water with a sheet of foil on top. About 1mm of the stem is touching the water. I'll update if anything happens. Thanks again! EDIT: added pictures. I also cut two leaves and put them in a similar setup to see if they can root....See Moreib7655
