Ideas for designing a bathroom around linen tile?

I am redoing my bathroom. I really like 'fabric look' tile. It seems like most people use this in showers, but does it work well for a bathroom floor too?

Does anyone have a picture of a bathroom with 'fabric look' floor tile?

Any ideas for vanity style and other design elements that would go well with it?

I haven't decided on the exact tile I will use - I'm pretty open - I like the soft look of fabric and like a gray. beige, off-white, or earth tone.

I'm picturing a very soft, understated look for the entire bathroom.

I don’t have a photo, but I did the linen look tile in my master bath. It is a darker gray blue and it looks beautiful. However….it shows every drop of anything dripped. Were I to choose again, I would do a lighter version.

I like the darker gray blue shades too. Are you saying it shows water stains? or stains from soap?

Just finished tiling my bathroom and I too will be installing a contemporary dark cabinet (American standard studio.. http://www.americanstandard-us.com/products/productDetail.aspx?id=1925) but instead it will a have squared sink also sitting on top of a glass counter top. I wanted to somehow tie in the color of the glass tiles and counter top and this is the combo I came up with. my wife and just about anybody who has seen the bathroom absolutely loved it. Ill try and post some pics. Just my 1/2 cent. I would tile the entire wall, shower and behind toilet. It is the visual entry wall from your door entrance. I realize a curtain needs to be closed for the most part to dry, but i open mine for the rest of the day because it opens up the room, and i like my tile. It goes all the way up to a post and beam ceiling. I'm not sure why it bugs me to see so many breaks and jags in tile these days, up down and across, even stair stepping...shower steam and moisture does effect the wall above eventually and the wall towards the toilet just by the direction of your shower head. But more to the point is when this trend started. Having been in hundreds of NYC bathrooms original build from the turn of the century thru the 60's, they do not jog tile up down and around in some decorative way. Stopping at the division before your sink area is fine as that division makes sense. A friend of mine stopped the tile like your last post, but it was a budget concern, so maybe that is the reasoning? The recent 'modernists' in bath design seem to do a great job with many of these issues by taking tile all the way around at the shower curtain/glass door line...the entire room, or tiling one entire wall. In the first pic above, the nice traditional bath with vintage fixtures, i would have stopped the tile just above, by one or two tiles, the window hardware, all the way around clean. That would fall just below the sconces. Just a thought, probably just me...

Ha ha, don't like my boulder in the shower? Yes, I agree the bench is more practical Good idea about niches, it keeps everything neat. I am not a big fan of towers, as the space can use some interest in the design. You have enough space for a linen cabinet and it can be smaller in width. Visually it will look better with the vanity top from one wall to the other, even if the cabinet is in front. If you feel a tower is right, consider having on the left side of the vanity as you walk in. If you hang the vanity off the floor (not have the cabinet to the floor) the bathroom will look larger. I like modern also with a touch of classic elements. There are so many options for bathroom design. If a dressing area is desired, then that can be an area that transitions from the bathroom directly into the closet. As it is now, you have to exit the bathroom and walk all the way around the king bed to the closet. Also, a note about the ceilings. It doesn't appear to be a vault from the roofline (doesn't continue through closet), so a tray ceiling sometimes causes odd layouts of furniture and defines spaces in how you don't want them to be layed out. A large tray as represented here may also cause unwanted situations with lighting and odd corners where different slopes meet.

I used two Kohler pedestal sinks, as I have other storage (chest) in the bathroom.

It doesn’t stain, but it shows drops or spills. Can easily wash away, but the floor doesn’t look clean for long (even if it is clean). I also have a full view bathroom door which leads out to the hot tub and pool, so the floor is getting full light all day which makes the marks most noticeable.

Not a big deal, just a nuisance.

We have a light gray linen look tile in our shower and on our floor. It does have that soft vibe that you are looking for and it feels good to walk on. It is not easy to clean, though because of the texture. I don't know if we'd choose it again. Probably - I did not have a close second choice and it does look very pretty. We ended up putting down a runner run across the floor in front of the vanity to keep that area clean.

I'd suggest obtaining a 12x12 or 12x24 tile and living with it to see how well it would hold up to daily use as a floor tile. Which ones are you considering? I like the linen look as well as an currently considering Daltile's P'zazz (gold glam).

We have it in our master bath. Love it. Ours is on the floor and goes up the walls. I'll try to post a photo tomorrow.

I used a linen-look 12x24" porcelain tile (Ann Sacks Texere) on the floor of both of the two bathrooms that I remodeled seven years ago. It feels good to walk on. I like the way it looks. It has a more contemporary look than subway tile, which I think is more traditional.

It is challenging to clean because of the texture -- dirt seems to stick in the tiny grooves. It is very slippery when wet -- not enough texture. Ann Sacks would not provide me with information about the DCOF. I would not use it again on the floor.
