It's January 2018 - How is your build?
Comments (332)Nidnay - great idea! We'll have to come up with something. Alison - we are using cedar from our land, too. Our front porch was just laid using it; the posts are solid cedar. It was milled and air dried for several months. Then we took it to be planed. Everyone seems confident that it should be fine (the mill, carpenters, etc.) - I've got my fingers crossed that they're all right. The pecan and walnut was kiln dried right after milling (back in July or August). Air drying would have been preferred for it, but we didn't have time. Everything was (luckily) mostly unwarped and what was warped could be planed down....See MoreApril 2018-Hows your build going?
Comments (344)nhbaskets....haha.....yes....rolled towels. My builder was joking with me that I could sort the mail in the bathroom :) Backsplash....I have seriously been considering the possibility of a nice used brick look with overgrout in the joints...something like in the pic below maybe (nothing red or orangy) ......OR.....a beautiful tile (there is a LOT to choose from). So, two completely different looks. Nothing in white though. There is enough white in the kitchen to be blinding :)...See MoreShow Us Your Gardens - A Photo Thread - May 2018
Comments (31)I have been gone for almost two weeks, and much has changed in the yard, thankfully. One of my favorite azaleas is blooming, this view which looks upwards into it. I like for its luminous white-pink blooms and because you can see the topmost blooms from the back deck. These tiarellas were rescued from near extinction last year, and they grew from extremely small starts to what you see below. I think I'm going to add some more for a mass planting. And, I LOVE the cobalt blue of the Brunnera. I will definitely turn that into a mass planting. These were abused by the plowman, and still look good this year. I thought they were goners. Just wish the variegated leaf forms would grow from seed. I bought four Percy Wiseman Rhododendron this year. I LOVE these colors. The buds are bright pink, but the flowers are light pink tinged with yellow. The three colors simultaneously on the plant are just gorgeous. And, ending with a very pleasant surprise. I ordered roughly 15 bare-root peonies last year in the fall from GH Wild. I planted them in rich well-prepared soil, and nearly all of them have buds this year. Did NOT expect that. It's going to be exciting! Below is one with two big fat buds. As a side note, I am realizing that these spring-blooming trees and shrubs are a good color bridge between bulbs and my "normal" herbaceous perennial season. The new azaleas may be off their true bloom time since they were just purchased and I'm assuming are under more of a greenhouse/grower timeline. But, I'm hoping next year they are blooming during this needed "bridge" time....See MoreJuly 2018 - How's your house build going?
Comments (260)Thanks all! lindavana - we got the light from Metro Lighting, its a Capital Lighting Chandelier, 4912BI, you can get in 8 or 12 lights. drbevdc - thanks!, my boyfriend is a big beer geek and this was his special request, we love how it turned out. Everyone raves about our open shelves, found them on Etsy and we love the navy cabinets. ILoveRed - curtains are our only window treatments on the main floor and since we are city living we were not sure how much everyone can see into our house, so they had to go up right away. I had purchased the curtains in advance so they were ready to go. We had the brackets hung by the construction team before we closed, so it was "easy" for me to jump up and hang them...i dont do heights very well and was a little scared since the ceilings are 11' tall, but I got them up! Rugs were all from our old house and the right size so easy to just lay down, whew....See Morekriii
