Comments (8)Oh....hahahAHAHAHAHA. Ken, I had to look at the photo again to see what chocolate cover you saw....... That is my crushed red peppers, AKA pizza peppers to some folks. It is a good squirrel deterrent. But you are right about consulting with Judy on the best way to overwinter. One that I selected she would not sell because it looked so bad from the winter cold damage. She said maybe later, if it recovered. I saw no winter damage on the ones which arrived though. I am delighted to have a real nursery specializing in hosta and some of their companions as close as 200 miles. That is do-able. Must say, I did not need any of those. I see a trend though, since Yellow Polka Dot Bikini is my third Striptease family hosta to enter my garden this year. I have Snake Eyes (YES!) and Erotica beginning to grow from small nubs. And returning so splendidly from last year is the lovely enticing Gypsy Rose, which I consider the hostess with the mostest. We'll see how the Yellow Polka Dot Bikini fits in. Then there is the Snake Eyes, which I hope grows up to look just like Babka's.....which I picked out from a lineup of her hosta on the bleachers by her deck door! Just remember: DON'T BLOCK THE EXIT.......See MoreMy first haul of the season
Comments (21)Right on Gloria, it was Grant Park. In fact, I think you might have been the one to tell me about that place last year. We went there for the corn boil last September and really liked the place. Now my poor plants have to deal with these cold temps. I'm keeping them in the garage for now. blacky1, you can overwinter your hostas in pots. I put mine in our unheated shed after they have gone dormant outside. No need to water them overwinter. In the spring when they start to emerge bring them outside and give 'em a drink. I know some on this forum say they even leave the pots outside, just be sure to either cover them or tip the pots on their side so they get too much moisture in them, otherwise they could rot. I overwintered about 10 of them and all have done good, except Tattoo and Great Expectations are no shows yet, but it is still early....and COLD! Comments (2)I sure looks like a lot of fun. I'll have to set up a temporary potting table when I get home to stay, maybe in a week or so. I wish you could send some of your rain my way ("3rd day of rain, about 3 inches each day"). My weather report is more like "3rd week with little rain, about 0 inches each day". But then, where you are if you need a little extra water all you have to do is wring some out of a handful of air. Is having circulation of air around your potted hostas criticle? Green Mountain is a truly impressive source for hostaholics. Are you putting Climax,Afterglow and Seducer in any particular order? (You didn't expect me to pass up such a direct invitation, did you?:) And just where are you planning to place Unforgettable much less Zippety Doo Da and Tiny Tears, honeybells? Comments (8)Same here. Ordered the following from Green Mountain mid of Sept 2013. Very happy with the plants and they are all doing well. I called them after the order to check on the shipping schedule as I was worried that I may not be able to get them in time before frost started. She was really helpful and assured me that my order would be shipped within 2 days. She sent me an email to let me know that order was shipped 2 days later. (and shipping is free for >$100 so I added 1-2 hostas to get to that $). They don't carry some varieties like other places (Liberty, touch of class, etc) ordered 9/14/2013, all 2 or more eyes Green Mountain Hosta $ Lakeside Shore Master Hosta - large $9 Queen of the Seas Hosta - large $10 Guardian Angel Hosta - large $12 Paul's Glory Hosta - large $6 Abiqua Drinking Gourd Hosta - large $10 Striptease Hosta - medium $8 Spartacus Hosta - medium $10 Tokudama Aureonebulosa Hosta - medium $9 Tokudama Flavocircinalis Hosta - medium $12 Halcyon Hosta - medium $6 Blue Mouse Ears Hosta - mini $9...See Moredon_in_colorado
