If budget doesn’t allow for all that, I’d at least try to change the front door as a priority.

In the meantime, if you’d like a planter there (as long as it wouldn’t impede getting to the door, of course), some visuals below. Again, agree with d_gw about reworking the area to give you a wider walkway area. The large shrub and bed to the right (in pics) hides, and makes it hard to get to, your door.

If you can’t change the walkway now, I’d still consider taking out the shrubs on that side to open things up ... either replace with more groundcover, a boulder/decorative rock, bench, etc.

I totally disagree regarding the landscaping style for this 70's-80's contemporary style home. Contemporary with this style of home does not mean minimalistic & the plants shown are quite carefree.

I don’t know if I’d say fuzzy but if person is not a gardener or relying on a “service”, then I’d characterize as fuzzy and certainly not as streamlined as House.

Door style is not modern as it should be but I think bright colored paint would do much for fascade.
