help for exterior front entrance

How do I make the front entrance inviting? It's shady for most of the day. Thanks!

I'd buy planters and fill them with impatiens and then line them up against the brick wall on the left. I'd also consider the same to cover that downspout hose. Lastly, a brighter painted door would be eye-catching maybe the planters could match the door color. It's a very nice entrance -- just needs a little natural bling! Good luck!

I agree that plants would help.........Put pots along the sunny wall and place a trellis up against the wall for the plants to climb. The entire wall could be covered with plants on a trellis...There is a product called "Greenscreen"....look it up.

Another more expensive option would be to take the overhanging eaves back to the walls and to build an arched roof structure over the top. I found a photo that shows how it might look.

The details are difficult to see in the low resolution photo but if there is crown molding under the overhang it would be further evidence of the contractor’s ignorance. A crown molding belongs at the top of the cornice. What you need is a scaled section drawing so we can offer real solutions. That’s what should have been in the drawings in the first place and it’s the only way you will be able to fix this problem. If that’s too difficult take a better photo and note the dimensions on it. It shouldn’t be difficult to make this thing look better.

do you like the idea of doing a mcm type of curb appeal? replacing the front door w/something more mcm type would help a black door, these color options, and bringing in some natural cedar or redwood planks, or siding to get the warm wood addition, would look perfect a dark navy w/wood accents would also look nice Landscaping will really go a long way to add some pizzazz to this exterior. you need something of interest under the windows to the right. something vertical. I'd redo the porch steps. maybe take the entire thing over to the right so that you have a front porch area to sit. not exactly like this, just showing you what I mean you could pour concrete steps and bring in cement tile

I don't like wreaths - but I would get a much larger door mat, or even an outdoor rug that covers much of the doorstep. If you can find one, choose a solid color or simple pattern ( to stay with the theme of solid door, simple bold stripe)

Plants as described above...and paint the downspout to match the brick. You will need to water the plants...so I suggest getting a walkway mat. The old, really thick "waffle hole" type that will allow the water to drain through. That type of mat will allow you to schedule the chore of power washing the concrete to once a year.
