need help with a front door portico
Comments (0)I am remodeling a two story farm house and would like to have a free standing portico over the front door on a 4'x4' thumbprint. There is only 14" between the front door molding and the adjacent window trim and I have wired exterior lighting on either side of the door, therefore no room for support columns. I do have access to the floor rafters for the second story, and was hoping to attach a 6' 4"x4" to the rafter tails (2' attached) and build my portico over that framing. My roof is a 4x12 pitch and was wondering about the ratio for the portico. Thanks for any and all feedback, I will update tomorrow with a picture....See MoreHow low to hang pendant light in front entry portico?
Comments (0)We're building a new construction home. Our front entry portico looks as follows: We would like to hang a fixture similar to the following: There is 23" between the soffit underneath the front entry portico and the bottom edge of the transom (denoted as point "B" in the image above). How low should the bottom of the lighting fixture fall below the soffit? Thanks!...See MoreHELP - ENTRYWAY/FRONT PORCH NEEDS MUCH HELP
Comments (9)So I would absolutely keep the rug. I would do a cooler color on the wall like a gray green or gray blue. Get a runner to go between the doors that coordinates with your existing rug. I would add real baseboards but if you can’t just paint a 4” wide white band above what you have to fake it. Add a narrow console table with an open decorative front to hide the air conditioner. Paint the door to the house charcoal gray. I found these curtain panels that to me could mimic artwork to hide the vertical blinds. Then add a seating are there. Keep the bench and mirror as is. I don’t have photoshop so excuse my poor mockups lol....See MoreLooking to redo front portico
Comments (5)I'm against painting brick unless there is something wrong with it. Here, the jumpy, high contrast pattern of it is unappealing to me. And, overall, the entrance area is much too dark. I'd paint it a lighter color, or as the trim color, which I'd keep white. I can't look at weathering shingles/shakes without thinking deterioration. I would pick a contrasting house body color and paint, or at least stain them. (IMO, stain doesn't last as long as paint, though its fading is less noticeable.) The entrance needs a much larger landing to look inviting. In spite of the fact that there will be sophisticated and seemingly persuasive arguments against them, I think your house appearance could benefit from shutters. Take my colors and details with a grain of salt. I'm using MS Paint and it is not really conducive to "repainting" a building. Whatever mistakes I make are not worth the time it takes to fix them. Use your imagination....See MoreSabrina Alfin Interiors
