Anyone have suggestions on window style for our old 1950s ranch?
Comments (5)I would stay with casements or sliders (I prefer casements) as your windows are wider than they are tall. Because of newer and better materials, what was a three wide unit (last picture) when the home was built can now be done with only two panels so that will give you more of an "open" feeling. Some of the two wide units may also be done in one wide depending on the overall width (e.g. a window 36" would have been two - 18" panels. Now you can have a single window 36" wide). I also agree with eliminating the grids or divided lites unless you feel strongly about them....See MoreHelp for choosing style of windows on brick ranch
Comments (1)Not sure the windows are going to change the overall look that much. Getting rid of the storms will be a nice change to clean up the exterior a bit, but the opening sizes kind of lend themselves to double hungs as it is currently situation. If the wood between the windows is not structural, you could replace the twin double hung units with sliders, but that probably looks a bit out of place on a rancher....See More50’s Ranch Style Needs HELP!!!
Comments (6)Adding a porch, stoop or entry should help relieve the flatness of the front facade. The roof looks like it has some wear on it. So, would suggest you replace if in your budget. Painted brick is very popular these days but keep in mind, once painted, the brick can't be unpainted. Landscaping would certainly help also. Good luck!...See MoreNeed help with long and low ranch style house
Comments (4)I would paint all the wrought iron pillars black. Add some colorful plants into your landscaping. It is a very nice house and quite attractive. I would keep it much as it is too. I do have the wrought iron on my house too, and they are black. I also intend to keep them. For your double doors, I would not paint them black. I would paint them a nice bright color, maybe a turquoise, or a darker rusty red, etc. Make them bright and stand out, so your entry way is clearly seen. Make sure you have lots of lighting....See Moregroveraxle
