Accent Wall for Master Bedroom Update as well as new furniture

Please help! We want to do an accent wall behind our bed in the master bedroom. My husband is afraid of wallpaper because he is convinced it peels but I think we should consider that as well. We want to keep the neutral cream/gray drapes but are willing to repaint and also want all new furniture. A larger console for the TV, an upholstered bed with a low footboard so we can see the TV, new nightstands and lamps if necessary. We want a more contemporary look and feel. The contractor said that due to the crown moulding we shouldn't do any type of stacked stone that is too thick. Need a TV console or sideboard that is at least 80 inches wide but could go up to 100" no problem. That cut out space is 10'8" wide.

The right wallpaper with the right decor could look nice. If installed properly, it won't peel but if you get tired of the look, wallpaper can be a pain to remove.

I would not do a trendy permanent architectural feature like a barn wall in a bedroom. You can easily decorate the walls with art, decorative objectives, paint, etc. to get the look that you want. And you won't be locked into a particular style.

What decorating style do you like? Glam, transitional, traditional, modern, farm? Share some inspiration photos of bedrooms that you love.

What about stained wood? If you don't want to commit behind the bed then use it behind the TV.

You can pull a lot of colors out of the wood for matching furniture, seating, and drapery.

nutmegxo- I have the embroidered coverlet and a duvet cover whiched I alternate using for my main covering and the euro shams also in the embroidered pattern. My dust ruffle is the satin in champagne, but I will honestly tell you, I did not like the way the dust ruffles are attached. They are attached by a strange type of straight pin which were very difficult to attach. Not only that but the part that was attached to the box spring, tore in several places. The dust ruffles themselves are beautiful, but they way they are attached is not a good idea. Even velcrow would be better. The wallpaper that I was looking at was F&B and the minimum order is 3 rolls, making the price around 900.00. Way too much for one wall! I love yours and may start looking again. It really does make a statement! I love the direction you are going and the color is great!

I like the brick wall and your furniture color. The bricks look white/gray/burgundy-ish? Your lamps are too small, though. I don’t like the wall color on the left, nor the floor color. Maybe it’s a trick of the lighting? I think the wall should be white to blend with your brick (is it whitewashed?). The bedcover seems to be an odd color, too. I wouldn’t introduce any beige/tan/gold tones anywhere because they clash with the wall.

Thanks @loobab! That bedding has turned out to be perfect in every way. It has become the inspiration for the whole house color palette. As often happens with decorating projects, I now have a new problem to solve. I have no place to put all those decorative pillows at night. There’s no other furniture in the room besides the bed and nightstands. Adding a bench at the foot of the bed seems silly with all that space on the sides to work with. A chair would be nice, but what else to put with it? I don’t need or want a dresser. And we don’t watch tv in that room, so a media console isn’t relevant. I fear just plopping a chair in one corner won’t be enough. Please help!

Yes, I think pink is a beautiful color for a master bedroom! The trick is picking the right pink and then balancing it with other elements that are not overly feminine. I love pink and brown together, or black. When choosing a grownup ink go to the brown section in your color deck. As you move up to the lighter colors you will see what I refer to as dirty pinks. These are softer, more pleasing pinks that men can love.

Given the current wall color and curtain colors, for the headboard feature wall I would suggest a wallpaper with a cream-colored background with a good-sized gray-colored pattern in a transitional style so you accomplish the contemporary feel but still complement the traditional elements like the moulding.

Your husband probably grew up with peeling wallpaper somewhere that stuck in his head. Does not have to be the case today. The room seems very dark. Do you want to retain that or lighten up? Stone just doesn't feel right in a bedroom to me. If you want a rustic look, then the distressed boards would be a better option. However, I'm not sure how they fit in with crown molding. Just seems like contradictory style to me. Since walls can change, I would focus on the bed which should always be the main attraction in a bedroom. Find that first and build around it and the bedding. Here's a chart on table/lamp heights in relation to the bed.

If you are hankering afteer pattern on the wall, another way to get it is paint stencilling. Not a quick job, for sure.

For the TV, I think you should go light rather than dark. This sideboard is 86".

I have wallpaper in my house that has been up for 30 years and it is NOT peeling! But having said that, I'm not a fan of "accent walls" at all. I'm particularly not a fan of ones covered in wood or stone unless that was original to a very, very old house.

The room is very dark. I would hire an interior designer to help you with this room.

Before the wallpaper (maybe) and paint,I would get the new
furniture,lamps and the new bedding into the room. These things,as well as the drapes you are keeping, will dictate
both colour and pattern choices for any eventual paint or paper.

the TV area,what about a floating console wall to add some modern
sleekness? The one above is from Overstock. Comes in a few finishes,but there are many variations.

It probably is better to figure out the furniture before the accent wall. As a very nice painting above the bed may be another consideration instead of an accent wall.

When you say "contemporary" is something along these lines? Console is only 76" though.

LOVE that bed, great taste. Also really like the nightstand and coordinating console. Going to try and hold off on the accent wall until the very end.

There are many ways to create an accent wall. One of the easiest ways might be wallpaper in your case. We have a design of ours as you see pictured below.

I've attached photos of my solution for a large niche. I bought this piece from Living Spaces and since it's not deep and the niche is, I installed a tv lift that's anchored to the wall behind the cabinet. this cabinet is 103 inches long, but they have others that will fit. Now I don't have to look at the tv in my living room when I don't want to.

we are NOT doing an accent wall at all and want to do a console in that alcove just like you did but I can't find that console on their website. Do you know the style name by chance?

1. No I don't but some of their pieces are made in very small numbers. So if they don't have it now, they may later. If you live near Living Spaces, show them my picture. They also have a lot of one-of-a-kind pieces. They are fairy priced. This piece was from their dining room sideboard collection. They are always adding new pieces.
2. I bought my TV lift from Touchstone Products. It's so quiet and quite a conversation piece.
