Accent Wall for Master Bedroom Update as well as new furniture
Please help! We want to do an accent wall behind our bed in the master bedroom. My husband is afraid of wallpaper because he is convinced it peels but I think we should consider that as well. We want to keep the neutral cream/gray drapes but are willing to repaint and also want all new furniture. A larger console for the TV, an upholstered bed with a low footboard so we can see the TV, new nightstands and lamps if necessary. We want a more contemporary look and feel. The contractor said that due to the crown moulding we shouldn't do any type of stacked stone that is too thick. Need a TV console or sideboard that is at least 80 inches wide but could go up to 100" no problem. That cut out space is 10'8" wide.

6 years agoWhat about stained wood? If you don't want to commit behind the bed then use it behind the TV.
You can pull a lot of colors out of the wood for matching furniture, seating, and drapery.

Color of master bath cabinets and furniture in master bedroom
Comments (5)IMO, the cabs and furniture need to coordinate, but not necessarily match. For example, we have white perimeter cabinets in the kitchen with merlot colored hood & island. Kitchen is open to family room with 2 built-ins in a slightly off white color. Cubbies are just around the corner from kitchen and can be seen through the doorway--they are also slightly off white. There is enough distance between the whites that you don't notice they don't match--they just coordinate. Our master bedroom furniture has a mahogany finish with antiqued gold pulls, the master bath has espresso vanities with antique pewter pulls and you can see from one room into the other. Again, they are just far enough apart that you really don't notice the difference & they coordinate. Stained furniture can be coordinated with painted vanities/cabinets & vice versa. Comments (30)I lived with my folks for a year before I got my current apt. during a relocation for a job, so I know how that goes. Here's what I suggest. Find out if you can get a storage box at the local U-Haul place or rent a storage locker. Pick a clean, well lit, well attended place that you won't mind visiting from time to time to get stuff you need. That will help with the decluttering. Do everything you can to put your stuff in closed storage, that helps make the room look restful. I store a lot of my teaching supplies in clear plastic boxes in shelves, organized by project. Is there an unpainted furniture outlet near you? That's another source for basic storage and office furniture. Check out IKEA's Web site for inspiration, but also definitely peruse the "Apartment Therapy" Web site too. Once you get it de-cluttered in there and narrowed down furniture wise, you can work on editing and displaying your art. First things first. Get a friend to come and help you edit your clothes and other stuff. Comments (9)There are many things you could do since you have a nice space to work with. You could do an accent wall behind bed using a dark blue color to go with bedspread, a paneled wall again in an accent color and I love your idea to use grasscloth, so that would be really pretty in the room as well. A rug underneath the bed would also help to break up the beige carpet. Go with your idea to beef up the lamps, although I don’t think they have to be metal but they could be. The artwork is hidden by the lamps so try hanging them above the bed horizontally. Add a mirror or additional artwork to the right of the bathroom door. I’d also get small floral or greenery to go on top of the nightstands. Greenery (or even faux greenery) goes a long way in helping spaces pop. If you go with a rug see if there an accent color you can pull out of it for a pop of color too. I like to purchase a bunch of decor and play with it. What doesn’t work gets returned....See More

6 years agoYour husband probably grew up with peeling wallpaper somewhere that stuck in his head. Does not have to be the case today. The room seems very dark. Do you want to retain that or lighten up? Stone just doesn't feel right in a bedroom to me. If you want a rustic look, then the distressed boards would be a better option. However, I'm not sure how they fit in with crown molding. Just seems like contradictory style to me. Since walls can change, I would focus on the bed which should always be the main attraction in a bedroom. Find that first and build around it and the bedding. Here's a chart on table/lamp heights in relation to the bed.

furniture,lamps and the new bedding into the room. These things,as well as the drapes you are keeping, will dictate
both colour and pattern choices for any eventual paint or paper.

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoIt probably is better to figure out the furniture before the accent wall. As a very nice painting above the bed may be another consideration instead of an accent wall.
When you say "contemporary" is something along these lines? Console is only 76" though.

5 years agoI've attached photos of my solution for a large niche. I bought this piece from Living Spaces and since it's not deep and the niche is, I installed a tv lift that's anchored to the wall behind the cabinet. this cabinet is 103 inches long, but they have others that will fit. Now I don't have to look at the tv in my living room when I don't want to.
