Brugs yellow leaves

My Brugs is 3-4 yrs old. It's blooming but leaves are turning yellow rapidly and may leaves have holes. I spray Neem every day and sprayed Forbid once per instructions. Nothing has helped.

My brugs get yellow leaves frequently, and I just pick them off so as to not look so unsightly. Brugs are heavy feeders and I feed mine twice a week during the blooming season using a lot of tomato fertilizer in the mix.

do you have a picture? Is it in the ground outside? Have you fertilized in recently?

It’s in a patio plant on the lanai. Just repotted it with Miracle Grow potting soil. I’m puzzled as to the holes and numerous yellow leaves. Otherwise a healthy(?) plant full of blooms.

They may have gotten hurt from the spider mites or just some die back from winter? They should be ok if you treat the mites and give them a little pick me up. I really wish I had been paying more attention to the weather and was able to take my brugs out for some rain or at least would have put out tubs to catch it. This morning was the first good rain we have had in a longgggg time. At least the citrus trees got some since I had them outside. Poor brugs missed out. Hope to move them to the greenhouse this weekend so I have room in the garage to start some seeds.

Could be lack of iron, as I get leaves very much like this when I first take them out of the basement. Brugs benefit from extra iron, and keeping the ph below 5.8. Try some Milorganite, I put a handful or two or 3 on all of my brugs, mostly for the iron. This works 99%. I feed my brugs with triple 20 (that is 20-20-20)twice a month, at 3 level tablespoons to 5 gallons. Miracle Gro sells 4lbs for 9.99 at my local shop. This provides about 500ppm nitrogen. Another possibilty is magnesium, this is in the 1% range. Use Epsom salts at 1 level tablespoon to 5 gallons. This is magnesium sulfate, and provides both magnesium and sulfur.

I'll have to take another pic of the last one. It has round red and black berries. I was outside with Mercedes when I took those because she was restless and kept wanting to go outside so I took the camera and we went out for a while. I wish I had known what was going to happen I would have taken a last pic of her but its better to remember her when she was well. Yes she was old and her heart gave out. She has been on heart meds for a a few months and the vet didn't tell me that it would only work for a little while. He wasn't surprised when I called him at 2:30 this morning and said to just let her go there was nothing more to be done for her. Enough about the sad part. The red plumie smells just like deep red roses. The really big brug in the bed out back is Naughty Nick. He lost all his buds when it got hot again. No Karyn, the new leaves look funky on the Daydreams but the others that got burned look ok now that they lost the affected leaves. Do you think I should destroy the Daydreams? I am now worried it might be a virus.

Brugmansia leaves often yellow especially with any slight stress or underwatering. Actually your pics show a healthy brug! The holes are probably from caterpillars or similar. There are various sprays or powders. Organically I'd recommend BT. Or you could look another each leaf for the culprit(s) but that is really tedious!

Thanks. I use Osmocote but from what I’m reading I need to feed more often. I have the tomato/plant food so I’ll start on the bi-weekly feedings. It’s full of blooms so it’s fairly healthy just not use to the growing/blooming habits.

Osmocote is slow release and as far as Brugmansia, they are piggies when it comes to fertilizer.

Update. Brugs are now thriving here in central Florida. Daily, nearly, feeding was the perfect fix. Still dropping yellow leaves occasionally which I’m realizing is normal. Thank you Z Man!

Glad to hear! Yeah brug leaves droop especially in mid-day sun. As long as their not dry, the drooping is not bad.

I now have continual chewing critters on my Brug. Ugh. I’ve purchased a tomato catipiller spray (Safer). Suggestions?

Do you know for sure it is caterpillars? I like using diatomaceous earth. You sprinkle it on the leaves and as long as it is dry, it kills insects that walk on it. I had a earwig problem years ago on brugmansia that was causing holes all over and DE worked.

Brug is now very leggy in this 90°+ heat. It gets full afternoon sun and def wilts then. Watering twice a day does help but if I’m working and skip a morning it takes its toll. I want to prune it now but wanted input about that this time of year as it’s suggested to wait until fall. Heavy rains here in Central Fl really weighs it down. Suggestions. Btw I may move it to a morning sun only location.
